He was the son of Shaantanu and Gangaa, thus he was the elder brother of Chitraangad and Vichitraveerya (sons of Shaantanu and Daashraaj's daughter Satyavatee. Darshan
Darshan means to know something fully well. Darshan is not only seeing an idol. When we go to temple and we do Darshan, we not only see the idol but also try to understand the person, whose idol we have gone to see, hidden in that idol.

Gun
Gun has two meanings:-
(1) One meaning of Gun is intrinsic characteristic of Prakriti (nature), primordial nature. There are three Gun -
(i) Sat or Sattwa or Saatwik, or Sato Gun (purity) - The Saatwik aspect refers to Divine aspect in man in contrast to the animal and human aspects in him. This Gun is characterized by purity, luminosity, lightness, harmony and production of pleasure. It is the purest aspect of all the three Gun.
(ii) Raj or Rajas or Raajas, or Rajo Gun (activity) - One of the three Gun that compose the Universe and all in it. It refers to human aspect in man in contrast to animal and Divine aspects in him. This Gun's qualities are vibration, activity and motion.
(iii) Tam, or Taamas, or Tamo Gun (stolidity) - One of the attributes of primordial nature - Prakriti. In this Gun energy tends to move downward. Its qualities are stability, stagnation, dullness, inertia, darkness.
(2) Attributes. In this sense it is used to describe God's two forms - Nir-Gun and Sa-Gun. His Nir-Gun form, being without attributes, has no form and thus is difficult to concentrate upon. While His Sa-Gun form, with attributes, has innumerable forms and is easy to concentrate and meditate upon. Beginners begin to meditate upon His Sa-Gun form only, then they gradually move towards His Nir-Gun form.

Marutt
Marutt was a King. Angiraa's son Mahaayogee Samvratt Rishi did a Yagya for him. In that Yagya all the small and big utensils were of gold. In that Indra lost his senses after drinking Somras and Braahman were over-satisfied with Dakshinaa. Also, in that Yagya, Marut Gan distributed the food and Vishwedev was the courtier. After this Yagya had ended, since Marutt gave so much wealth to Braahman, they could not take it all and left them there only. Since left out wealth belongs to the king, that is how Yudhishthir got that wealth and used it for his Ashwamedh Yagya.

Maharshi are those people who live like Rishi and they are good at spiritual knowledge; Raajarshi are those people who are kings but still live like Rishi; and and Devarshi are those Devtaa who are Devtaa still live like a Rishi. Maharshi are many - Vashishth, Atri etc; Raajaa Janak was Raajarshi, there is only one Devarshi that is Naarad Jee.

Soot Jee
His name is Ugrashravaa and he is the son of Maharshi Romharshan who was also called Soot Jee.

Uttaraayan Kaal
A human year is divided in two parts which are called Ayan. During the year, the Sun once goes to South and once comes to north. He comes to North from 14th January or Makar (Capricorn) Sankraanti and goes to South from Kark (Cancer) Sankraanti and thus is called Dakshinaayan. Uttaraayan Kaal is supposed to be holy. Bheeshm Pitaamaha waited for this period to die.

Ved Vyaas Jee
Ved Vyaas Jee was the son Maharshi Paraashar and Satyavatee - daughter of Daashraaj. From Vichitraveerya's wives, Ambikaaa and Ambaalikaa, He had two sons - Dhritraashtra and Paandu; and one son from their maid-servant. His name was Vidur. He had another son named Shukdev Jee.

Vidur Jee
Vidur Jee was the son of Maharshi Ved Vyaas from Ambikaa's chief maidservant. He was the incarnation of Dharm Raaj and because of the Shaap of Maandavya Rishi he was born as Shudra's son. At one time some servants of a king caught some thieves at the Aashram of Maandavya Rishi. They thought that Maandavya Rishi was also in the group of thieves, so they caught him also with thieves. With the order of the king all of them were assigned death punishment. When Raaja knew this, he got the Rishi back and asked for his forgiveness. He asked Yam Raaj - "What was my sin to get this punishment?" Yamraaj said - "You pierced a Tiddee with the tip of a Kush".  Muni said - "I must have done that unknowingly, and you punished me so severely for such a small crime? You will live in Shoodra Yoni for 100 years." And because of that Shaap Yam Raaj was born in a maid-servant's house.

Vilom Vivaah
When a high caste woman marries a lower caste man, it is called Vilom marriage and their children are called Soot Putra or Putree. Soot Jee's mother was a Braahman and his father Romharshan was a Kshatriya, that is why he is called Soot Jee. In the same way Karn was also a Soot-Putra.
