Pulastya Muni is one of the ten Maanas Putra (brainchildren) of Brahmaa - Angiraa, Atri, Bhrigu, Daksh, Kratu, Mareechi, Naarad, Pulah, Pulastya, Vashishth. He was married to one of the nine daughters of Kardam Rishi - Havirbhoo.

He had two sons - Maharshi Agastya and Vishravaa. Vishravaa had two wives - Idvidaa and Kaikasee or Keshinee.  He had four sons from them - Kuber from Idvidaa and Raavan, Kumbhkarn, and Vibheeshan from Kaikasee. Thus Pulastya Jee is the grandfather of Kuber as well as Raavan.

Once Sahastrabaahu took Raavan to his palace and kept him in his stables for some time. Then Pulastya Rishi himself had to go to Sahastrabaahu to save Raavan from him. He went there and asked him to free him. Sahastrabaahu said - "I respect you that is why I free him." And then not only he freed him, but extended his friendship also with him and gave him lots of gems, royal clothes etc.
