Tourism sector posts 16% growth in Nov
New Delhi Dec 2

A 16 per cent rise in foreign exchange earnings from tourism was reported last month compared to corresponding period last year, indicating that the lean period in the aftermath of September 11 bombing is over and the industry has turned around.

Disclosing this in the Lok Sabha, Tourism Minister Jagmohan said a similar encouraging trend is seen this month too. Earnings through tourism declined by four per cent after the terrorist attack on targets in United States in 2001.

Replying to supplementaries during the question hour, the Minister said, "the country earns, on an average, a sum of Rs 15,000 crore through tourism which is hardly 0.38 per cent of the international tourist traffic."
