iPhone is really good

Damn Apple! Finally, I bought the iPhone a fortnight ago. I have been using it for two weeks and so far I am lovin it. It really is an amazing piece of device that only Apple could have designed. I closely followed all the news and updates regarding it before I bought it. And, here are some of the missing feature that has become moot now - thanks to efforts of iPhone Dev Team and hackers around the globe. Here is my previous post in which I have listed all features that had prevented me so far from buying the phone.

- No replaceable battery:
Now, they are available. Current battery life is 300-400 charges and after that 20% capacity will be lost.

By the time the time comes to replace it; I would have definitely replaced my phone.

- No 3G:
Yes. It is not available. But, AT&T has boosted edge speeds up to 175 kbps; that is more than sufficient.

- No buttons:
After using it I realized that it takes the same number of steps to make a call and less number of steps for to open other applications. First click to get it out of sleep and second to unlock it than everything is available with one click.

- No GPS:
However, there is an application called Navizon that works as a virtual GPS for a fee.

- No keyboard in landscape mode:
The key is in the software. Apple’s software is smart enough to recognize common spelling mistake and replace words. That makes typing on it as easy as on MDA or 8125.

- No custom applications:
Now, there is an iBrickr; that lets you install anything on iPhone via Wi-Fi or cable. Cool huh! And, there are so many other online applications.

- No support for editing office docs:
Heard of Zoho? It actually lets you edit office documents. Even PowerPoint presentation (MS PPC doesn’t do that). And, also have a dedicated website for iPhone.

However, the biggest reason I bought it now was; the price reduction. A beautiful device such as iPhone for $299 is very tempting. I had data service on AT&T; it cost me $40 a month with my previous phone. But, with iPhone it is only $20. So, in a year I'd save $240. And, since the phone cost me $300 the real cost of owning an iPhone to me is only $60.
