In 1993 while Mark Bowden was busy writing his famous novel Black Hawk Down, The United States was busy passing new laws, there was trouble in Waco, Texas, A bomb went off in The Trade Center, Sports, Best selling albums as well as great movies.
New Laws: In 1988, voters authorized limited gambling in Deadwood for historical restoration. In 1993 the Legislature voted to increase the slot machine and bet limits back up to where they were. The problem was that they had to have it improved by a law; this law was called Referred Law #1. If this law was passed it would mean that more bars could have gambling, it also meant that places that already had gambling could add even more machines to their collection. (sdsos.gov/1993)
New York Trade Center Bombing: On February 27, 1993, five people were killed when a bomb went off at The New York Trade Center. More than 600 people were injured. The explosion blasted a huge hole in the complex’s basement garage, collapsing walls and ceilings into a commuter rail station below. (Encarta.com)
Waco, Texas: In 1993, a 51 day stand-off between Federal law enforcement officials and members of the religious group the Branch Davidians took place near Waco, resulting in the deaths of as many as 80 cult members and 4 federal agents. (Encarta.com)
