A site dedicated to the sheer fun and beauty of graphic design. Yeah, right... Ok, honestly though, the site contains images and blogs of my adventures with GIMP,webdesign, and life in a 3rd World country.

4 reall small cubes Welcome to the Graphic Doodles Web page. Its mostly about GIMP's power as a graphics application. Unfortunately I don't go into much detail about techniques and such as there's just not enough space on this GeoCities account. Although its fun to explore the various features and present the results. Hopefully GIMP will inspire you as it did me.

Cruiser I must have thing about speed and sand. I think it was the pod race sequences from Phantom Menace.
The three My very own software package. Who needs to pay tons of money for branding when you can do it just as easy with GIMP?
The three This was an experiment with bezier curves. Have a look and see the interesting shapes you can get.
4 cubes v2 I made this image for a Java application that I'm working on.
Virgo logo I designed this logo for a small company. You can definitely make money with GIMP

The silence is a result of my getting married! So, no blogs for a while ;)

Finally, my first space craft!!! I have a large collection of these on paper, but I've never done one digitally, so to speak. And for a change, I've included a lengthy description on how I arrived at the final image.

Things are a bit wierd at the moment. I'm leaving my current job, promotion and all, and I'm diving into a large amount of uncertainty. New country, hopefully, and as soon as possible a new job.

I wish I could update more often but it seems less and less possible with the workload that I currently have.

Speaking of workloads, finished our company's website and I've been getting props from as far afield as Seattle. For me, the site stands as a testament to what you can achieve with GIMP. And for us 3rd worlders, the PhotoShop and Corel apps are way too expensive.

Even for the HTML and JavaScript development I would have loved to be using DreamWeaver but alas money has resulted in me using HTML-Kit. Its grown on me actually. It has some nice functionality to it. But the WYSIWIG interface of DreamWeaver has it beat. For me switching between "HTML code" and "Preview" does not make an WYSIWYG editor :).

I knew that using MS FrontPage would have some catch to it. I had some nice little dots running between each of the 3 columns of this page and now they're gone. :(. They do show up in Netscape 7 however. This means more tinkering with my HTML code to try and figure out this crossbrowser debacle *mutter* *grumble*.

On a more cheerful note, got to playing around with perspective today. To create something. A box floating or something like that. Have a look and you decide what it is.

Yes, my page has finally hit 1000 hits and getting stronger! I'm also working on an image of a spaceship.

At this point and time I can safely conclude that its probably wiser to sketch out something and then scan it. Certain shapes are just easier to do without the bezier curves. It just takes too long to do stuff with a mouse. Unfortunately I don't have a better input device like a tablet.

I also decided to brighten up the The Three by using GIMP's normalize function. It can be found by following the steps below:

Image->Colors->Auto->Normalize

Tomorrow there's a second mass stay-away so I don't know what my country's going to be like in the morning. I'm also using MS FrontPage at an Internet cafe to do this update. The last time I did that the end result was just plain nasty and I swore I would never touch MS FrontPage again. Well, lets just see what happens with this page.

Nothing much has changed since the last update although I've discovered that The Three is awfully dark on some monitors. Too dark, you can't make out what the picture is. I wish I had gone to graphic design school. I also stumbled onto Gimp User Group website which has tons of tutorials!! Also, this site is about to hit the 1000 hits mark. Woohoo!!

For those of you who've been regularly following this blog, wish us luck. Who knows, maybe the US will decide that here's another dictactor that needs to go. Heaven help us :)

I quickly made an image after work today. Felt like playing around with the bezier curve tool. Also successfully got the site off my machine onto Geocities. I say successfully because I've been having a hassle connecting to the net ever since I finished the new version of this site.

So, ideally, today should have been the first entry onto the blog, but well you can't always win in life.

Almost completed this version of the site. I've done all the images, tested the javascript that loads the image details--laziness won in the end, the script works though--on Opera and Netscape so the page should be available to the world pretty soon. Unlike the last time, this script is unbelievably easy and should work just fine. However, style sheets are proving to be a thorn in my side because they render beautifully in IE and the Netsacpe and Opera behave like they don't know the heck style sheets are all about.
Pity that I don't have more images after such a long dry spell.

Yes, its a Sunday, but I can't resist the urge to be in the office. More so because I promised the management team that their site will be complete by Monday, which is tomorrow. Although using HTML-Kit is quite kewl, there are times when I wish I had a WYSIWYG editor like DreamWeaver. Especially today....

For this version of the site I've decided to abandon the javascript that loads the images. I'll just manually type up an HTML document and paste the relevant fields in it. I'm doing this because when I was checking the site traffic, most of the hits were on the index page and not the image pages. I think the cryptic menu bar didn't help either. So, all links are clearly marked.

OMG.... My site is listed as one of the featured sites for WebRing's GIMP User's Ring. This is a first, to say the least. See for yourself

I can't believe that it's been over 4 months since I last updated the site. But its with good reason--I do have to work so time is scarce. I'm trying to specialise in enterprise software development using the WebSphere family of tools and applications. This has just opened up a new world of programming for yours truly.

The current site is now v2.0--seeing as how I get tired of a site's look and feel after about 5 or 6 months after uploading it. I'm also currently working on my company's website which should be up and about soon. I say soon because we're dealing with a really crappy ISP which hasn't the foggiest about good customer service.

I'm pretty happy with the design of the site and also because I used GIMP all the way to design the graphics.
