2006 harvest – first impressions St.-Christoly
Medoc, September 14. It is sure that the 2006 vintage cannot be bad,
yet nobody ventures to say it will be great. After an exceptional
beginning of summer, the weather changed from August 1st. One month
later, proprietors hesitate between optimism or uneasiness.
Optimism
at Chateau Margaux, where first white grapes had been harvested on
September 13, “in a euphoric atmosphere rather similar to that 2005 or
2004 at the same period”, explains Paul Pontallier, technical director.
At
Chateau Haut Brion, the harvest began on August 30, “under pressure of
an instable weather”, Pascal Baratie says. The fifteen coming days will
be determinant, in particular for the red wines.
