BACK HOME Closed for a period then reopened to show films in conjunction with the Hillside Theatre after the fire at the Century Theatre in December 1964. Demolished about 1970. Hillside Pictures, Railwaytown 1915: Theatre was built in Gypsum Street. 10/12/1922: Partially demolished in a severe storm. 1923: Rebuilt. 9/1930: Closed for a short time to change over to "Talkies" Pictures and reopened again. After the fire at the Century Theatre in December 1964, the Hillside was cleaned up and re-opened to show films in conjunction with the Metropole at South Broken Hill. Demolished in 1972. West's Open Air Picture Theatre. In 1908 West's showed pictures at the Skating Rink, Oxide Street, and later in the old Hippodrome in Sulphide Street, between Crystal Street and Crystal Lane at the rear of the Palace Hotel. |
