                                                         SURVEYING

With such a long drive the survey work, involving 2 shaft plumbings, and unclosed traverse of over 5 miles, and 78 set ups, had to be carried out with the greatest possible accuracy. One of the major difficulties in this work was the fact that the small size of Junction Shaft allowed a baseline of only 4’ 3” for shaft plumbing.  On this baseline depended the directional accuracy of almost 2,000 feet of driving from the Junction Shaft end.

In spite of this and other difficulties, the breakthrough was made with a horizontial displacement of only 4 feet and a difference in level of 3/8”.

                                      ROLLING STOCK

A ten – ton diesel – hydraulic locomotive was used to pull thirteen 120 cubic ft. capacity Granby trucks along the new drive at speeds of up to 10 m.h.p.  The train should make at least 4 round trips of 51/2 miles each per shift, hauling over 100 tons  of ore per trip.
The total length of train will be 160 feet long.
