Hello Coach Goodrich,
I understand you are seeking information on BHS track and cross country alumni.
I ran track and cross country at BHS from 1983 to 1987.
My best performance in high school track was a 4:39 1600 meters in 1986. That was my junior year. Another highlight was finishing sixth at the league cross country championships in 1986, helping BHS (led by Chris Burger and Ben Turman) to a narrow victory.
After high school, I attended Oberlin College, then Oxford University (as a Rhodes Scholar), then RAND Graduate School. As a sophomore at Oberlin, I ran 10:12 for the steeplechase; 16:12 for 5,000 meters; 26:31 for 5 miles (cross country); and 34:03 for 10,000 meters. Although I was fairly slow compared to some BHS alumni, I trained very hard and am extremely proud of those performances!
I currently live in Maryland with my wife and 3-year old daughter. We are expecting a son in November. As for career, I am a policy analyst for the RAND Corporation, a think tank, where I specialize in health policy. My wife, Michelle, is a nationally syndicated columnist and bestselling author.
I retired from serious running after college, but still run for fitness and attend track meets every now and then. I hope someday to coach high school cross country and track (distance events only).
