pH Data from Water Tests

28 February 2000

Neff and Matthew Run Watershed

This water testing by Beall High School students was done with the intent of achieving a four-season synoptic view of the pH in the Neff and Matthew Run watershed. These two streams are located in western Allegany County in Maryland. Their water enters Georges Creek in the town of Midland; Georges Creek flows on to enter the Potomac River in Westernport. Acid mine drainage (AMD) from past mining activity has been a chronic problem in this area and is being systematically addressed as funding becomes available. Baseline data is needed and is being gathered and recorded by these students.

Space is saved to add iron and sulfate data as soon as time permits for testing. A map of the area with locations of the sites will also be added to this page.
