James Belushi lindi me 15 qershor 1954 ne Chicago te Illionis nga Adam dhe Anje Belushi. Babai Adam emigroi ne Amerike kur ishte 16 vjec.Beri kater femije: Mariana,Xhoni,Billi dhe Jamesi.Adami u merrte me restorantin qe kishte dhe shpresonte qe kur ti rriteshin djemte ta ndihmonin te restoranti.Por James me Xhonin iu futen kinemase me protagonist Xhonin qe u be i famshem me filmin "Bluesbrothers".Vdekja e papritur e Xhonit nga overdoza qe morri ne vitin 1980 ishte nje humbje e madhe.Eshte i martuar me Jennifer Sloan me 2 maj 1998,ishte i martuar me Majrorie Bransfield (1990-1992) dhe me Sandra Davenport (1980-?).Ka nje femije me Sandra:Robertin.U be i famshem me filmin K-9 (1989). Rreth vitit 1996 shkoi ne Shqiperi ku na kujtoi edhe nje here origjinen e tij shqipetare per te cilen jemi krenare si komb.
