The CROSSFIRES

Despite the fact that the Crossfires eventually morphed into the foul abomination known as The Turtles, complete with those two obese bozos Flo & Eddie, this early incarnation was one of THEE hottest surf combos in Southern California.
Their instrumentals ranged from mood pieces like "Inferno" and "Fiberglass Jungle", scorching surf sizzlers like "Out Of Control" and "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde", to raw raging blasts of punk rock vocals like "Justine" and "One Potato Two Potato".
The Crossfires gained notoriety for prominently featuring the Maltese Cross on their promotional materials (the band originally called themselves the Stormtroopers!), and originating a lewd teen dance craze known as "The Spoon Dance"...lewd enough to cause law enforcement officials to threaten a shutdown of the venues the Crossfires appeared at.
So, you ask, how did they deteriorate from hormone-fueled teen surf superstars to The Turtles?
Beats me, but I'd heap the blame on Bob Dylan, Flower Power, and the second half of the 1960's without a moment's hesitation.
