The PHANTOM

The Phantom, aka Jerry Lottis aka Marty Lott aka "The Gulf Coast Fireball" only recorded a lone 45 for Dot Records.
As luck would have it, "Love Me" b/w "Whisper Your Love" is the kind of record you can build a religion around!
The top deck of this 45 is freewheeling, foaming-at-the-mouth rockabilly insanity in its pure, undistilled form, unrestrained by preconceptions of "coherence" and "sanity"! You can almost visualise The Phantom & Co bouncing off the studio walls in a benzedrine-powered frenzy as soon as that first bone-chilling scream leaps off the ol' HiFi at ya!

Words like "genius" and "brilliant" get tossed around real easily these days, but they both apply to The Phantom. The fact that this 45 never charted is proof that in most cases, the obscurities of rock'n'roll were a plain case of "Pearls Before Swine" where the public's tastes are concerned.

The Phantom's promising musical future was cut short by a tragic automobile accident in 1966 that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

The first three seconds of "Love Me" contain more intensity than the combined recordings of any so-called "rock" band!
