The WAILERS

No, silly, not Bob Marley and the Wailers, I'm talkin' about The Fabulous Wailers from Tacoma, Washington!
Emerging from the Pacific Northwest's fertile teen beer-drinkin' scene, The Wailers started out as a raunchy instrumental combo and scored with a series of wordless wonders, starting with "Tall Cool One" in '59.
Their "High Wall" is a classic moody teen instro rumbler which is as representative of "surf music" as anything to come out of California three years later!
By the early 60's, The Wailers had morphed into a wild garage punk band, complete with snarling vocals and flatulent fuzz guitar. Their "Out Of Our Tree" LP is a classic of the genre, complete with fuzz bass! The Wailers inspired countless Pacific Northwest three-chord teen punk combos, most notably, The Sonics.
The Wailers disbanded in 1968, after a few ill-fated attempts at "keeping up with the times".

Listen to The Wailers' "Dirty Robber"!
