Panamao Development Initiatives, Inc.

The Panamao Development Initiatives (PDI), Inc. is a non-government organization (NGO) duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of the Philippines and is based in Naval, Biliran, Province.

Vision

PDI envisions a Province of Biliran whose people, rooted in its history and culture, are critical, active and enjoying a better quality of life that does not prejudice the needs of future generations.

Mission

PDI commits to build empowered communities to improve the quality of life of the Biliranons.

Core Beliefs

While autonomous from government and political parties, PDI shall deal with these sectors in a principled way based on the following core beliefs that we have agreed to abide by:

1. Dual Power Strategy

We recognize the importance of government power as it allows individuals and groups to do more for the nation. But more important are the self-empowerment of the powerless, the self-emancipation of the poor from poverty, and their self-enlightenment resulting from reflection on their own efforts.

2. Empowerment through participation

We believe that people empower themselves through civic participation. By knowing and then asserting their rights, they take responsibility for their own development. They enhance their critical faculties, their appreciation of their development resources and constraints, their negotiation and claim-making skills, their leadership, etc., by exercising these civic roles.

3. Autonomy and critical engagement

We cherish our autonomy. Then we need to pursue independent and self-respecting efforts to build up ourselves and the communities that we serve. But we do not operate in a vacuum. We interact with political parties, corporations and government agencies and officials. We are open to partnerships that are principled but are also ready to engage in measured criticism.

Core Values

PDI adheres to the following core values:

1. Integrity
2. Community-service orientation
3. Dynamism
4. Gender sensitiveness
5. Makakalikasan (ecology-friendly, nature lover)
6. Self-reliance
