A new online journal devoted to the early 20th Century poetic form developed by Adelaide Crapsey, reviews and essays on other terse poetry traditions. Editors are seeking submissions. AGNI A special web version of the well-known print 'zine, features poetry, review and essays by such notables as Mark Strand, Chinua Achebe, Tony Hoagland, Thom Gunn, Haydun Carruth, Louise Gluck, David Lehman ... you get the picture. The Alsop Review Featuring high quality main-stream poetry and articles, AR is home of "The Gazebo," the best poetry critiquing board online. Post your work on this site for thoughtful, honest feedback. Read the AR's editors generic comments and topic threads for further education and enlightenment. Selected online classes by such luminaries as Kim Addonizio also sponsored by the AR. Great site for the writer dedicated to perfection of craft. Apples and Oranges International Poetry Magazine Traditional poems, free verse and experimental forms of international poets; poetry news, essays and poet interviews, music, social action links. The Atlantic Unbound An online version of the venerable Atlantic Monthly, abridged from the printed version, plus net-specific features. Original poetry and essays from the likes of Richard Wilbur, Billy Collins, etc. ? as well as fiction, reviews of the arts, net news, political and cultural essays, an archive ... well, all that you would expect from a great mag', now in 'zine form. The Beloit Poetry Journal "Over its nearly fifty-year history of continuous publication, The Beloit Poetry Journal has searched for the poetry that steals the shoes. The ever-growing roster of poets for whom we were the first or an early publisher ranges from Galway Kinnell and Gwendolyn Brooks in the 50's to Sherman Alexie in the 90's. Poems come in from all over the world. The editors pick the best they receive, without regard to form, subject matter, school, length, style, or the reputation of the poet." The Big Bridge "...a webzine of poetry and everything else." Okay, the claim is a bit overstated. Smart cartoon-style graphics and grunge fonts give the site a graphic punch. The editors seem biased in favor of short, epigramatic poems. Quality varies, but the site does attempt to showcase experimental, quirky work. Bohemian Ink celebrates beat generation culture and literature. Interesting links. The Café Review A quarterly poetry and art publication, featuring interviews and articles by internationally known writers, as well as the best in "recognizable name brand" poetry. Chiron Review This minimalist site showcases sample poems from their Pushcart Prize nominees, a MWF night poetry chatroom, interesting poetry links page. Unfortunately, they do not archive their issues online, but the sample poems justify an occasional visit. Contemporary Poetry Review From London, a remarkable resource for serious readers. Site includes a Recommended Readings section, including an archive of outstanding 20th C. English-language poetry and criticism, book reviews, commentary on the state of contemporary poetry by some of literature's best essayists, including Seamus Heaney, James Rother, Devesh Patel, Robert Pinsky, Maria Maziotti Gillan, James Fenton ... the list of stars is long. Go, read, be enriched. Eye Dialect is a quarterly lit-zine with a ring format uniqualy adapted to the web. There are no issues or archives -- they keep selected work in constant circulation, adding to the collection at regular (quarterly?) intervals. Aside from the interesting configuration, you will find the highest quality main-stream poetry, fiction, biographies and essays, as well as an audio index. The poetry ring includes the likes of Billy Collins, Mark Doty, Stephen Dobyns, Stanley Kunitz, Phillip Levine, Thomas Lux, Linda Sue Park, Jamie Wasserman, Bruce Weigl ... step inside and satisfy your appetite for good work. Hosted by the Alsop Review. Literal Latte "...a stimulating literary magazine (brewed in New York City), brimming with stories, poetry, essays and art." While the website contains only excerpts from their archive, and the text is riddled with typos, the writing here is solid, crisp. LL sponsors an annual poetry contest (deadline July each year) and is scanned for national awards, including the Pushcart. The editors accept email submissions, details at site. The Literary Review An international review of contemporary English-language writing, includes poetry, fiction and essays. Their handsome online site is easy to navigate, rich in high quality content. Specific issues concentrate on regional writing communities: Irish, Filipino, North African, Iranian-exiles, Portuguese, etc. Published by Fairleigh Dickinson University. NakedPoetry.com Poetry, fiction, reviews with a (you guessed it) naked, on-the-edge theme. Features writing theme challenges, soft erotica, naughty shoes. Accepts submissions online. pOeTIX A high energy forum for "sounding off" and getting the news out. Edited by impresarios Don Deedon and Larry Jaffe (both intense promoters of the L.A. poetry scene), it has a distinct late-night-local-club flavor. Features an "open mike page" for posting new work, bulletin board for local event notifications, interviews, venue critiques, open mic candid camera, chap book mall, interesting links. Poetry Flash The most comprehensive events and poetry announcement medium on the West Coast, Poetry Flash also features reviews, essays, and (natch) poetry. High quality. Tabloid print version is FREE at Pacific Coast bookstores and newstands. Poetry and Prose The Poetry Super Highway "...strives to be the most extensive directory of poetry/writing related websites helping us to meet our goal of exposing as many people to as many other people's poetry as possible." Edited by Valley Contemporary Poets regular Rick Lupert , the zine is integrated with his personal web site. Be sure to check out his online chap books. Poetry Today Online Hosts the Ring of Words Webring Digest, linking poets around the globe via ICQ / IRC Chat sessions. Featured writers, interviews, criticism, "how to publish" articles, contests, and more. Also supports an email based newsletter. A useful networking resource. Get on their mailing list and join the ring. The Rancher's Wife Cowboy/girl-Western poetry. A site celebrating the revival of this rural oral tradition, featuring verse a la Robert Service, S. Omar Barker, Arthur Chapman, and Bruce Kiskaddon. Not recommended for the self-consciously urbane, nor those with corn and sorghum allergies. Pshaw. Stirring: A Literary Collection Poetry, prose, scripts. Quality varies, mostly work from emerging writiers. Site features free critiques via email, accepts electronic submissions. Trout: a South Pacific Journal of the Arts Trout is a quarterly "...forum for the poetry, prose, reviews, interviews and artwork of or about New Zealand and/or Pacific Islands writers and artists. It is intended to encourage writers and artists, but hopefully will also promote interest in this broad and vital subject area to a world-wide audience." Washington Review Online Literature and the Arts, Washington, D.C. and elsewhere -- poems, stories, interviews, reviews, articles and art. The Wolf Head Quarterly The Wolf Head Quarterly is a print-based magazine that features quality prose and poetry by writers from across the country. It's heavy graphic backgrounds make online reading somewhat difficult, but the quality of writing is worth the effort. The Zuzu's Petals Quarterly Online "Our mission at ZPQ Online (in keeping with Dana Gioia's National Book Award winning, Can Poetry Matter?), is to expand the influence of poetry beyond its traditionally academic audience and to make quality writing an everyday craving." |
