Labor Day Wedding in
Oregon, Sep 1999
A day at Fort Vancouver, in
Vancouver,
Washington, across the river
from Portland Oregon
While in the area for the family wedding,
we did get to spend a good part of one day across the Columbia River
to visit the Fort Vancouver National Historical Park.
Bill and Nancy are standing beside a sign
at the entrance to the reconstructed fort itself:
Bill is seen here checking out the inside
of the fort:
There was a fully reconstructed
blacksmith shop (#1 in the schematic) that was most interesting, with
a blacksmith actually working and talking about the shop in the years
the fort was in use. Unfortunately, it was too dark in the shop for
good pictures (for us, at least!). The tower, above, is #10 in the
schematic, below.
See a National
Park Service schematic of Fort
Vancouver. (It takes a bit to
load, but worth it!)
Many of the fine homes of the former
Officer's Row have been preserved and are now used by a variety of
organizations. One is a nice restaurant, which you can see is
decorated in period style:
Nancy, our daughters, Allison and Arrion,
and Nancy's sister, Janice, are shown above choosing from a fine menu
of meals for lunch.
