BASIS: "BUILDING
SELF-ESTEEM" 8 WEEK WORKSHOP
(A COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM)
The "Building Self-Esteem" 8 week workshop is designed to give
to the participants the means of developing self-esteem in an ongoing self-help
context.
The basis of the workshop is this statement:
"ONES SELF-IMAGE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT BELIEF IN ONES BELIEF SYSTEM.
ITS THE PRIMARY DEFINER OF WHAT I CAN DO AND THE PRIMARY
LIMITER OF WHAT I UNDERTAKE. THE SELF-IMAGE DIRECTS ME TO BE WHO I AM, WHAT I
AM AND HOW WELL I PERFORM. WHEN I CHANGE MY SELF-IMAGE TO BE MORE ACCURATE, NOT
ONLY DO I CHANGE BUT THE WHOLE WORLD’S APPEARANCE CHANGES - FOR THE
BETTER." Henry Ford said it more succinctly: "If you think you can or
if you think you can't, you're right."
THE WORKSHOP THEN IS THE LEARNING OF:
How did my low self-esteem develop and that I'm
not stuck with it.
+ It developed when I was young and vulnerable
with out evaluation and as an adult I can reprogram it. I was born OK, it is the perception of my self that is the problem.
I'm in charge - The decisions I make determine
the outcomes in my life.
The power of choice - I have the power of choice
in every situation or if I find I don't in a particular situation I can take
steps to gain that power.
I get in life what I focus on, what I commit to,
not what I think I want.
+ I can use that fact to my advantage.
TO ACCOMPLISH THE ABOVE :
I learn the steps to deal with my feelings so
that my feelings do not push me around.
+ Doing this just once verifies that I am in
command of my responses to situations and validates my power of choice. I do
not have to accept "WHAT IS NOW" forever, I can change it.
I learn that life is an "inside-out"
job, not an "outside-in" job.
+ When I operate from my true center
"GUILTS" and "SHOULDS" are put into perspective.
I learn how the subconscious works and how to
use positive affirmations to reprogram my self-image. I commit to positive
inputs in my life.
I learn to listen to my self talk and intercede
with positive input when it is found
negative. I focus on the desired result.
I learn that positive visualizations can greatly
improve my performance in new situations or improve on past performance.
I learn how to relax using the "Relaxation
Response". I'll find that I am at my most creative when I am relaxed and
will gain new insights that will promote my well being.
I learn that there are many sources that are
available to assist me in changing my self -image. Books are one. Tapes are
another. I look for positive, healthy books and tapes that fit my needs.
I learn that for my life to have meaning I need
to set a goal for my life. Then I set intermediate goals that
fits into my overall desired outcome.
With an accurate self-image everything changes. Relationships, work
performance, dealing with problems and set backs, my total well being, all are
enhanced.
