Love At Christmas
Written and Copyright 2000 by Ashley Sullivan
Mackenzie Reynold's walked into the estate living room and walked across the room to stare out the window. She stood there for several moments watching the snow fall and was soon lost in thought. 'What was the great news Billy had to share with her?' she wondered. 'I have no clue, but he sounded so excited about it.' She turned away from the window. She turned away from the window and went to sit in a chair by the fireplace. She'd find out soon enough, he was on his way over and would be here any minute. Just then there was a knock on the door and Mac hurried to answer it, knowing it would be Billy.
"Hey, beautiful!" he said with a smile when she answered the door. He walked past her into the living room and waited for her to follow after she closed the door.  Mac walked into the living room and over to Billy.
"What's got you in such a good mood?" she asked couriously.
"That can wait....but first..." he said as he lowered his lips to hers. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled his lips closer to hers.
"Mmm..." she mumbled when they broke apart.
"You can say that again!" he laughed.
"Now what's the big news?" she asked again.
"Well I talked to my dad today, and he told me that the whole family is flying to New York on Christmas Eve so we can celebrate Christmas with my sister Tracy and her family." he replied with a smile. "Isn't that great?" Mac's face went white and her smile faded, but she quickly hid her sadness because it was so important to Billy. "Its been so long since I've been there," he continued. Mac turned and watched the fluffy, soft, snow fall outside as she peered out the foggy window. She couldn't belive what Billy had just told her. He was leaving to spend Christmas in New York! How could he do that? This was supposed to be their first Christmas together!
"You're really leaving for Christmas?" she finally asked still staring out the window.
"Yeah dad wants to spend it there, Ash and Jack are going too!" he said with excitment. "Its been so long since I've been there, I can't wait!"
"I am sure you'll have fun." she replied turning to face him.
"Is something wrong Mac?" he asked.
"No, why do you ask that?" she lied.
"Well because you don't seem very excited for me." he replied.
"No, I am just tired that's all." she replied.
"Are you sure?" he asked as he took her hand.
"Yeah." she said with a fake smile. She was lying and he knew it! The look in her eyes said it all.
"Well I know you're beat, so I'll head home." he said. He took her hand and walked to the door with her. "I'll miss you tonight." he said. "I miss you every night!"  Mac smiled and tilted her head to kiss him. "I'll call you in the morning." he said.
"I'll be waiting." she replied. Billy walked down the steps and into the cold night. She watched him climb into his jeep and then closed the door. Even though the house was warm, Mac shivered and tears streamed down her face. 'What was Christmas going to be like without Billy?' she wondered. Just then Brock walked in and saw her tear-stained face.
"Mackenzie, what's wrong?" he asked with concern. But before he could get an answer, Mac turned and hurried up the stairs without a word.
Mac hurried to her room and floppeed down on her bed. She buried her face in a pillow and let the tears fall freely. How could he not know this would upset her? Didn't he know he was supposed to be there for their first Christmas together? It was supposed to be special. Now it was just going to be lonely. What did she have to look forward to now? A bunch of new things she really didn't need! What a Christmas this was going to be! Mac glanced up and looked out the window and watched the snow fall and a thought struck her. Was she supposed to act like she was happy for him when she was dying inside? Did he expect her to share in his excitment? There was no way she could act happy when she was so sad. There was no way!  Slowly she sat up and gazed out the window again. Wasn't there anyway she could stop him from going? No she couldn't stop him, it wasn't fair to keep him from going he was so excited about going. All she could do was spend the next three days with him and make the most of those days. What else was there to do? "Nothing." she told herself.
Billy walked into his house after seeing Mac and noticed his father sitting in the living room reading the newspaper.
"Well hello son!" John greeted him. "Where have you been?" he asked.
"Ah, telling Mac about Christmas in New York." he replied. "She didn't seem very happy about it even though she tried to be."
"Well I can understand why she would be upset." John replied.
"Yeah but I want to go to New York," Billy said. "But I want to be with her too."
"Well you make the decision," John said. "You know your mother would love to have you for the holidays and the family and I would understand."
"I know, but I can't decide." Billy replied as he sat down by his father on the couch.
"You're going have to son, we leave in three days." John replied.
"I guess I'll sleep on it." he replied.
"Good idea. Things will look clear in the morning."
"Night dad." Billy said as he headed towards the stairs.
"Night son and remember its your decision." his father replied. Billy frowned slightly and hurried up the stairs. Billy had a lot of thinking to do. Should he choose his family or the girl he loved? There was no way to have both! 'Maybe, just maybe.' he said to himself as he thought of an idea, 'Maybe Mac could come too! No, her family would want her with them for the holidays.' But what if he picked her up late on Christmas Eve so she could have time with Brock and Kay? Then they could fly to New York and celebrate with his family as well as hers! It was perfect, now all he had to do was convince his family as well as hers. But he knew if he wanted to make Mac happy he would convince them and it would be the best thing, he just had too!.
The next morning Billy woke early to go talk to the person he knew that would help him with the problem, there had to be a solution. As he drove down the road he thought of how unhappy Mac was last night! She wanted to be with him so badly, he felt the same way, but his family was important too. He pulled into Mac's driveway and hurried to the front door to escape the falling snow.
Esther answered the door and said, "Well hello Billy, you're here early! I am sorry but Mac's not up yet."
"That's okay, is Mr. Reynold's up yet?"
"Yes, he's in the dinning room." she replied.
"Thanks." he replied as he headed toward the dinning room. "Mr Reynolds, can I talk to you for a minute?" he asked.
"Oh hello Billy, sure sit down." he replied. "What's on your mind?"
"Well I need to talk to you about Mac." Billy said.
"Okay." Brock said waiting for Billy to continue.
"I need to ask you a favor." he said.
"Okay I am listening." Brock said.
"Well you see, this Christmas my family is going to New York to be with my sister and her family...and well when I told Mac I could tell it broke her heart!"
"Ah so...that was the problem." Brock replied.
"What do you mean?" Billy asked.
"Well after you left Mac was in tears, but before I could get an answer from her she dashed upstairs to her room." Brock replied.
"I knew she was upset but tried to be happy because she knew it was important to me." Billy said sadly.
"Billy what does all this have to do with the favor?" Brock asked.
"Well Mr. Reynolds, I was kinda hoping you'd consider letting Mac come with my family and I to New York later on Christmas eve." Billy replied.
"I see....well I don't know Billy, Christmas is a very important family holiday."
"I know sir, but it would make Mac so happy." Billy replied.
"And I am sure Katherine would want Mac here as well." Brock stated.
"Sir I am sure she would, but its the only solution I can think of." Billy said.
"What about staying with your mother?" Brock suggested. "You know we'd love to have you."
"I know, but I'll be back mid Chrismas day to be with my mother, so Mac would be back too." Billy replied.
"I see..." Brock said again.
"Please, Mr Reynolds!" Billy pleaded. "You know it would be the best present you could ever give her."
"Yes, I am sure it would." Brock replied.
"So...." Billy asked.
"I suposed I could allow her to go."
"Oh thank you sir!" Billy smiled. "I promise you sir you won't regret this!"
"I am sure I won't, and I know that Mac will be more than pleased." Brock said with a smile.
"Actually I was hoping you wouldn't say anything to her." Billy replied.
"What?" Brock asked.
"Well I was hoping it could be a surprise," Billy said. "She'll be so surprised when I come by that night to take her along."
"Yes I guess that would make it all that more special," Brock said. "All right, I won't say a word to Mackenzie."
"Thank you." Billy said.
"Now you'd better go before Mackenzie comes down." Brock said.
"Yeah, I wouldn't want to  ruin the surprise." Billy replied. Brock walked him to the door and waved goodbye as Billy climbed into his jeep. He knew he was making the right decision, but how could he keep such a thing from Mac? He had to, he knew it would be worth it in the end.
With that done, now he only had to convince his father. The drive across town seemed endless, but finally he pulled in front of his house. He walked into the house and found everyone hurrying to pack.
"Have you packed yet son?" his father asked.
"I am almost done." Billy replied.
"Well hurry, we want to send our bags to the airport to be loaded onto the jet." John said.
"But dad, can I talk to you for a second?" Billy asked.
"Sure son what is it?" he asked.
"Well I've worked something out with Mr Reynolds, and all I need is your approval." Billy replied.
"Okay what's the propsal?" John asked.
"Well dad, I was hoping you'd allow Mac to come with us." Billy said.
"Well of course son, but doesn't her family want her with them for the holidays?" John asked.
"I am going to make Mac think I've left and then later that evening I will stop by and pick her up and then she and I will fly to New York to meet you guys."
"Well if its okay with Katherine and Brock, its fine with me." he replied. "Does Mackenzie know?"
"No, its going to be a surprise!" Billy said with a smile.
"Oh she'll love it!" Ashley said from the doorway.
"It's not her gift Ash." Billy replied.
"It isn't?" Ashley asked.
"No." Billy replied.
"Then what did you get her?" Ashley asked.
"None of your business." Billy replied.
"Oh you're no fun!" she frowned.
"I know!" Billy laughed.
"Have you packed yet?" John asked.
"No, I still have two days yet." Billy replied.
"I know Billy, but we're sending our bags and gifts up this afternoon." John replied.
"Why am I never told these things?" Billy complained.
"Well if you were home instead of out with Mackenzie all the time, you'd be here so someone could  tell you." Ashley teased.
"Oh shut up!" Billy laughed as he walked up the stairs.
"You only say that because you know I'm right!" she called after him. "They are so cute together!" she told John when she walked into the living room.
"Yes they are, no matter what Jill thinks." John replied.
"Oh, I wonder what she's going to think about this?" Ashley asked with a smile.
"I really don't care to know." John replied. "And if it's a surprise, I suggest we all keep our mouths shut!"
"Yeah if Jill knew, she'd ruin it just because." Ashley said seriously. "Anyway, I should go finish packing."
"Yes, I have some left to do too." John replied as they headed up the stairs.
"What did you get me?" she asked.
"What's with you, don't you like surprises?" he asked as they walked up the stairs.
"Daddy!" she whined.
The next afternoon Billy walked up the estate's steps and rang the doorbell.
"Hello Billy!" smiled Esther when she opened the door.
"Is Mac here?" he asked.
"Yes she is, would you like me to call for her?" Esther asked as she let Billy into the living room.
"That would be great!" he replied.
"Mackenzie!" Esther called. "Billy's here!" Esther smiled at Billy and then walked down the hall to the kitchen. Just then Mac walked down the steps and smiled faintly at him.
"What are you doing here?" she asked as she approached him.
"Do I have to have a reason to come see my girlfriend?" he asked. She smiled again and then pressed her lips to his. "What would you like to do today?" he asked when they broke apart.
"It doesn't matter to me." she replied with a shrug.
"How about we take a walk in the snow?" he suggested.
"That sounds great!" she smiled. She walked to the entry way closet and pulled out her coat and gloves.
"Ready?" Billy asked when she had pulled them on.
"Yeah." she said. They headed out the backdoor into the falling snow. "It's so beautiful!" she sighed.
"I know." Billy replied as he looked at her. She looked up at him and blushed. "So what are you doing for the holiday?" he asked.
"Nothing much, just staying home with my dad and grandma." she replied with a frown.
"Well I'm sure it will be a great holiday." he said as he took her hand.
"Yeah, I guess." she sighed. She let go of Billy's hand and walked ahead of him.
"What's wrong Mac?" he asked.
"Nothing." she lied.
"Bull Mac," he replied. "I know you too well! Don't hide things from me!"
"I'm not Billy!" she insisted. "Everthings fine!"
"I don't understand why you're so upset!" he pushed. "Why don't you tell me?"
"Because Billy," she replied. "Nothings wrong!"
"Fine." he said as he stooped down and picked up a handful of snow.
"What are you going to do with that?" she asked cautiously.
"This!" he grinned as he tossed it at her.
"You didn't just do that!" she cried.
"I did!" he laughed as he threw another one at her.
"You're gonna get it!" she cried as she dashed towards him.
"Yeah right!" he laughed as he ran around the yard. "You'll have to catch me first!" Suddenly he made a wrong move and Mac tackled him to the ground.
"Gotcha!" she grinned as she looked down at him.
"Wrong again!" he laughed as he rolled over and got on top of her.
"That's not fair!" she squealed.
"Whoever said life was fair?" he asked.
"Me!" she grinned. Their smiles faded and they looked deeply into each other's eyes.
"Mac." he whispered before he lowered his lips to hers. Mac cupped her hands around his neck and pulled him closer to her. Billy ran his finger through her hair and then gently caressed her face.
"Uh hum." said a voice from above them. They both looked up to see Brock looking down at them.
"Dad!" gasped Mac.
"Hello you two." he frowned.
"Ah, Mr. Reynolds I can explain." Billy stammered as he stood and helped Mac to her feet. "Mac tripped and I was ah......"
"Settle down Billy!" laughed Brock. "You don't have to explain yourself to me!"
"I don't?" asked Billy.
"No you don't." he replied. "I remember what it was like to be young and in love! But don't let it go further than kissing!"
"Yes sir!" Billy replied with wide eyes. Brock smiled and then headed back to the house. "Oh wait." he said. "Esther has made fresh cookies and cidar if you want some."
"Thanks daddy." Mac said with a smile. After Brock had disappeared into the house, Mac looked at Billy and grinned.
"What's that look for?" he asked.
"No reason." she replied as she headed to the house.
"Where are you going?" he called after her.
"To get some cidar." she replied. "I don't know about you, but I'm cold!"
"Well come back and I'll warm you up!" he smiled as he ran after her. Mac just laughed and hurried to the house!
The next day past quicker then Mac ever imagined and soon it was Christmas eve and Billy was standing in her living room saying good bye.
"I'll miss you." she whispered.
"I'll miss you too," he said with a faint smile as he pulled her close. "I'll be back tomorrow afternoon." he reminded her.
"I know." she said quietly.
"Look its getting late, and everyone is waiting for me at the house." he said.
"Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow" she replied. Mac walked him to the door and held on for dear life as he said good-bye.
He smiled when the broke apart then said "I'll give you your present when I see you again."
"Sure." she replied. He kissed her again then hurried down to the waiting limo. Mac brushed tears from her eyes then closed the door.
"Are you all right darling?" Kay asked from behind her.
"I'll be fine." Mac answered and and dashed upstairs to  her room.
Billy climbed into the limo smiling to himself, everything is going perfectly he thought to himself. Everyone else arrived in New York several hours ago, and planned to meet them in New York in a few hours. Now all he had to do was go home and wait until it was time to surprise Mac. Waiting was going to be the hardest part, but the look on Mac's face would be worth it!
That night Mac sat in a chair in front of the fireplace by the tree. She stared into the fire and wondered what Billy was doing.
"What are you thinking about darling?" Kay asked from the couch.
"Oh nothing." Mac replied.
"Don't you like your gifts?" she asked.
"Oh yes grandma, there all wonderful more then I ever hoped for or deserve." Mac replied. She looked at the gifts stacked in front of her.
"Oh don't be silly!" her father said. "You deserve all of them and much more!"
"Your father's right." Kay said. "Now what really is the matter?"
  "I just wish...." Mac said.
"You just wish Billy was here don't you?" her father asked. Mac shook her head then turneed back to the fire.
Kay looked at the clock then said, "Well I think I am going to go to head to bed."
"Me too." Brock agreed. "How about you Mac?"
"Ah I think I'll stay here for awhile," she replied. "Could you turn the lights on, on your way out?" she asked.
"Sure darling." Kay answered as the stood and flipped on the lamp lights then walked upstairs with smiles on their faces.
Mac sat staring at the fire for quite awhile and just listened to the silence. Billy had been over earlier that afternoon and said good-bye. He hadn't given her a gift because he said he'd give it to her later which she found strange, but it was his gift to give. She stared into the flames and suddenly felt hands on her shoulders.
"Dad...." she asked. "I thought you went to bed?" There was silence and she turned around in her chair and found Billy standing behind her. "What are you doing here?" she asked in surprise.
"I am here to take you to the airport." he replied.
"What for?" she asked.
"Because I want to spend Christmas with you." he replied with a grin.
"But what about my family?" she asked,
"I already talked to your father, now are we gonna go or not?" he replied. She let out a squeal and hurried into his arms. He wrapped them around her tightly and pressed her lips to his. "I love you Mackenzie." he whispered. She pulled back and stared at him with tears in her eyes.
"I love you too Billy." she replied and kissed him deeply. "This is the best present anyone has ever given me." she said as they walked to the door.
"If you think this is your present, then your in for a surprise!" he laughed.
Mac laughed too then asked, "What about my stuff?"
"Your grandmother already packed it and it's on the jet." he replied.
"Is your family already in New York?" she asked.
"Yep, its just you and me." he replied. She smiled again and climbed into his jeep. No matter what Billy said, this was still the best present she could ever wish for!
"I can't believe you actually did this!" Mac said happily.
"I'd do anything for you." Billy replied as he took her hand in his. They walked off to the jet in New York and hurried to the waiting limo.
"So is everyone waiting for us?" Mac asked.
"Actually they're not expecting us for another couple hours." Billy replied with a sly smile.
"What's going on in that head of yours Billy Abbott?" she asked.
"You'll see."  he replied as the car started to move.
"Where are we going?" she asked with excitement.
"Be patient beautiful." he said as he brought her hand to his lips. "It will be worth the suspense."
Mac smiled brightly then leaned back and looked out the window at the passing scenary. Finally the car stopped and the driver hurried to open the door.
"Where are we?" Mac asked when the stood outside.
"Centeral Park." he replied.
"Really?" Mac asked with wide eyes.
"Yes, your transportation to the next surprise is right over here." he said as he pointed to a horse drawn sleigh.
"Oh Billy!" she squealed with joy.
"You know where to meet us don't you?" Billy asked the driver.
"Yes sir." the driver replied when Billy walked over and helped Mac into the sleigh.
"Here's your gloves and scarf." he said as he handed them to her. "We wouldn't want you to catch a cold."
"Thanks." she said with a smile.
"Ready?" he asked her. Mac nodded her head and the driver put the sleigh into motion. The snow fell and Christmas tinkled all around them from the trees above as they rode through the park.
"This is amazing Billy." Mac said. "I can't believe I am really here!"
"Well believe it, and the evening is just beginning."
"There's more?" she asked with surprise.
"Much more." then he pulled Mac into his arms and pressed her lips with his.
Mac wrapped her arms around Billy's neck and pulled him closer. "Billy, this is the best Christmas I've ever had!"
"Well beautiful its about to get better." he replied with a smile as the sleigh stopped.
"Where are we?" she asked.
"Still in Centeral Park." Billy climbed out and helped her to the ground then paid the driver. "Come on." he said as he took her by the hand.
"Were are we going?" she asked.
"You'll see."  he replied. They walked the short distance into the lighted area and Mac gasped at what was in front of her..
"Are we going skating?" she asked.
"Yeah we are." he replied as the walked to the ice rink.
"Where is everyone else?" she asked.
"There is no one else, its just you and me." he replied as he handed her a pair of skates.
"Oh Billy, you're right." Mac said. "It gets better!"
"Ready?" he asked.
"Yeah but there's one problem." she said.
"What?" he asked.
"I've never been skating." she replied.
"Oh is that all?" he laughed.
"Come on its easy." he took her hand and pulled her onto the ice.
"Oh G** Billy I am going to fall!" she cried as she hung onto his hand.
"Here," he said as he moved her arm to encircle his waist. "Just hang on and you'll get the hang of it." They skated slowly around the rink and suddenly the music began to play.

(The song is "All I want for Christmas"  by Mariah Carey)
I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More then you could ever know
Make my wish come true...
All I want for Christmas is you

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stockings
There  upon the fireplace
Santa Clause won't make me happy
With toys on Christmas day
I just want you for my very own
More then you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas baby is you...
You baby

I won't ask for much this Christmas
I won't even wish for snow
I am just gonna keep waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake
To hear those magic reindeer click
'Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding me so tight
What more can I do
Baby all I want for Christmas is you

All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's laughter
Fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear thoes sleigh bells ring
Sant won't you bring me the one I really need
Won't you please bring my baby to me....

Oh I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I am asking for
I just want to see Baby
Standing outside my door
Oh I just want him for my own
More then you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas is you...
All I want for Christmas baby is you
All I want for Christmas baby is you.

Suddenly Mac let go of Billy's waist and took hold of his hand instead. "What are you doing?" he asked.
"This." she giggled as she began to spin.
"Oh your going to make us both sick!" he laughed. Suddenly Mac spun too quickly and she lost her balance sending her and Billy to the ice. "Ow!" he cried. "Did you have to land on me?" he asked.
"You always break my fall!" she laughed.
"Yeah I guess I do." he smiled. "Come on this ice is cold!" He climbed to his feet then helped Mac up. They stood there holding one another and suddenly his lips were on hers. He wrapped one arm tightly around her waist and then the other hand he laced through her thick silky hair. Mac ran her hands softly up Billy's arms then around Billy's neck, sending goosebumps through his body. Just then the limo pulled up and the spell was broken. Billy took her hand and pulled  her to the bench. He then helped her out of her skates and into her boots. There he said when he took off his own skates. "Ready to go?" he asked.
"Yeah." she said with a smile. "That was so much fun, thank you so much Billy!"
"It was nothing," he replied. "Besides the night is still young!"
"Are we going to Traci's apartment now?" she asked.
"Yeah we should." he replied as he helped her into the limo. "They're expecting us." The road was a short drive to the apartment and they waited for the driver to open the door. They stepped out and Mac gazed up at the tall building that seemed to disappear into the sky.
"Hello Mr Abbott." the doorman smiled as he opened the door. "Everyone else is waiting for you in the penthouse."
"Thank you Jeffrey." Billy replied as they stepped into the elevator.
"I am nervous." Mac said. "What if Traci doesn't like me?" she asked.
"Everyone likes you Mac, why wouldn't she?" he asked. The elevator bell rang and the doors slid open to reveal a short hallway. "This way." he said as he took her hand and led her into the double doors. Billy turned the knob and stepped inside and pulled Mac with him.
"Well hello there you two." Jack said from the living room.
"Hey Jack." Billy smiled.
"How was the trip?" Jack asked Mac.
"It was fantastic!" she replied with a smile. "Thank you so much for inviting me!"
"It's no problem." John said as he walked into the room.
"Yes we're very happy to have you." Ashley said as she followed him into the room.
"Everything is so beautful." Mac said as she looked around the room. "And Billy and I have been having so much fun!"
"What did my litte brother have in store for you?" Ashley asked as she sat down next to Jack on the sofa.
"Well first we went on a sleigh ride through Centeral Park." Mac said as she followed Billy into the room.
"Really?" Ashley asked. "How romantic."
"Yes it was." Mac said as she and Billy sat down on another couch. "And we went ice skating and no one else was there. It was just the two of us."
"Well little brother it looks like you've out done yourself." Jack smirked.
"Yes it looks like Mac enjoyed her Christmas gift." John said.
"That's only part of her gift." Billy replied as he slid his arm acrossed her shoulders.
"There's more?" Mac gasped.
"You ain't seen nothin yet beautiful." he smiled. "So where are Traci and Steve?" he asked.
"Well Traci's in the kitchen fixing  dinner with Mamie. And Steve is in the den doing some work." John answered.
"Did I hear voices?" Traci suddenly asked from the doorway.
"Hey sis." Billy said as he stood. She smiled brightly and hurried to hug him.
"It's good to see you." she said. "I've missed all the trouble you seemed to get into!"
"Ha ha very funny!" he laughed. "Traci this is Mac." he introduced.
"It's good to finally meet you." Traci said. "I've heard so many nice things about you from the family."
"It's nice to meet you too." Mac smiled. "And thank you for having me."
"It's no problem." Traci said. "The more the merrier right guys?"
"Absolutely." Steve replied from the den doorway.
"Mac, this is my husband Steve. Steve this is Mac." Traci said.
"It's nice to meet you." he replied.
"It's nice to meet you too." Mac smiled.
"Well I think dinner is about ready so let's migrate towards the dinning room." Traci said.
"Great I am starved!" Billy said.
"When are you ever not?" Ashley asked.
"Did I ask you?" Billy shot back.
"No, but I always give my opinion!"
"I know!" Billy snapped.
"Now don't make me seperate you two." John said.
"Sorry dad." Billy said.
"Why can't you two be more like Jack?" he asked.
"Hey!" Jack cried. "I didn't ask to be brought into this!"
"Besides he's not perfect." Ashley laughed.
"Oh yeah?" he asked.
"Hey now!" John said. "Stop it! Let's just have a peaceful family dinner."
"With this family I don't think that's possible!" Mamie smiled  as she walked into the room with the turkey.
"I have to agree with her." Traci said. Mac could barly contain her laughter, in fact she had to clasp her hand over her mouth to keep the sounds from escaping.  Billy looked at her from the corner of his eye and smiled slightly as he took her hand in his under the table. The dinner went well but it was mostly business talk and it didn't really interest either of them. But finally dinner was over and Billy and Mac excused themselves to the living room.
"Well that was interesting." Billy said as they sat down  on the floor by the Christmas tree.
"Oh yeah, but it was fun!" Mac laughed. "So what are we going to do for the rest of the night?"
"Anything you want." he replied.
"How about this?" she asked before she leaned in and pressed his lips to hers.
"Hey you two." Jack said as he walked into the room. "Oh I am sorry, didn't mean to interrupt!"
"Where is everyone else?" Billy asked.
"Ah Dad and Ash headed up to bed." Jack said. "And Traci, Mamie, and Steve are cleaning up the kitchen, but as soon as there done there going up to bed too."
"Great." Billy said.
"Why do you say that?" Jack asked.
"Oh its a surprise." Billy said with a smile.
"Another one?" Mac asked.
"Of course."
"Well I know you'll keep your mouth shut so I am headeding to bed!" Jack laughed. "Have fun you two."
"See you in the morning Jack." Billy called  as Jack disappeared down the hall.
"Are you too going to bed soon?" Traci asked suddenly as she walked through the door with Mamie and Steve.
"In a little while." Billy replied.
"Well then we'll see you guys in the morning then." Steve said.
"Good night." Mamie said.
"Night." Mac said with a warm smile. They all walked down the hall then Billy and Mac were alone in silence.
"Wait right here." Billy said as he stood and walked across the room.
"What are you doing?" she asked couriously. Billy walked over to the stereo and flipped it on. Suddenly soft music filled the air. Mac smiled.

Oh holy night
The stars are brightly shining
Its the night of our dear saviors birth
Long lay the earth in a pining
Til he appeared and the soul felt its birth.

Billy walked over and dimmed the lights and then lit several candles around the room. When he finished he walked over to Mac and held out his hand. Mac placed hers in his and stood. Billy pulled her close and she leaned her head against his shoulder as she listened to the traditional Christmas song.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For younder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine O night
O night divine

A thrill of hope
The weary world rejoices
For younder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees
O hear the angels voices
O night divine
O night when Christ was born
O night divine O night
O night divine

Mac leaned back a moment and gazed into Billy's bright blue eyes.
"I love you." he said suddenly. Mac gasped and tears filled her eyes.
"I love you too." she whispered.
"I've been wanting to say that forever, it just didn't seem right until just now." Billy said with a smile.
"I know what you mean." she replied. Billy leaned down and touched his lips to his softly. Mac placed her hands on his chest and leaned in to deepen the kiss. Billy placed his hands on hers and moved them up around his neck and then traced his down her arms. He lifted one hand to her chin and firmly curled the other one around her waist. They broke the kiss and smiled at each other. Then Billy kissed her several more times.
"Come on." he finally said.
"Where are we going?" she asked.
"You'll see!" he laughed. He led her out to the patio and Mac gasped at the beauty that layed in front of her eyes. The city lights were enchanting against the night sky and the falling white snow made it all the more spectaculer.
"It's beautiful Billy." she whispered.
"I was hoping you'd like it." he said.
"But what are we doing out here?" she asked.
"I am trying to get the right atomosphere." he replied.
"Billy what are you doing?" Mac asked as she stared at Billy who was now down on one knee. 'What's really happening?' she asked herself.
"Mac I've loved you from the moment we met, even though I didn't realize it." he said. "And now I know without a doubt that I can't live without you.  Mackenzie will you be mine forever and marry me?" Mac stood there staring at him for several moments as he held the ring in his hand. Billy stared back at her and she could tell how nervous he was, but she was having trouble finding her voice.
Finally she found her voice and said, "I've loved you from moment we met and even though I wouldn't admit it I knew we'd be together. And now that I can see my future I can't see myself with no one but you Billy, so yes I'll marry you!" Billy stood and wrapped his arms around her. He swung her around and she let out laughter that filled the air. Finally he sat her down and slipped the ring on her finger. She gazed down on it and thought how smiple it was yet at the same time how beautiful it was. It fit not only her finger but her personality too.
"It's beautiful!" she sighed.
"Do you really like it?" he asked nervously.
"I love it Billy." she said with a warm smile.
Billy leaned down and kissed her softly. "I love you." he wispered against her lips.
"And I love you." she replied. He took her hand and led her back into the house. They sat on the couch and snuggled up close. It wasn't long before they were asleep and dreaming of their future together.
Billy and Mac were awoken the next morning by Colleen, Traci and Steve's daughter.
"Morning cutie." Billy smiled. "Hey where is everyone else?" Billy asked.
"I don't know, but I'll  go get them up." she said with a smile. She dashed down the hall and they could hear her laughing as she woke everyone up. A few minutes later everyone wandered into the living room in robes and pajamas.
"Morning." John yawned. "Did you two sleep well?" he asked.
"Yeah dad." Billy said.
"What's that?" Ashley asked as she spotted the diamond on Mac's finger.
"Ah......" Mac stammered.
"Billy you didn't!" Ashley squealed. "Did you?"
"Well..." Billy mumbled.
"Oh my gosh they did!" Traci giggled.
"Billy are you and Mac engaged?" John asked.
"Actually dad, we are." Billy replied nervously.
"Oh that's wonderful!" Ashley said.
"How romantic." Traci cooed.
"Billy why didn't you discuss this with me first?" John asked.
"Because I knew you'd try to talk me out of it." Billy replied.
"Well your right about that. What can I do now?" John asked.
"Nothing." he replied as he squeezed Mac's hand. "Look dad, Mac and I love each other and we want to be together forever!"
"I realize that son but..." John started.
"Dad let's not worry about it now,"  interruped Jack "We'll talk about it when we get home."
"I suppose your right, I wouldn't want to ruin the holiday." John agreed.
"Grandpa can I open my presents?" Colleen asked.
"Sure sweetheart go ahead." he replied with a warm smile. Billy looked at Mac and smiled slightly. Mac returned the smile. She leaned in and kissed him softly.
"Aw..." Ashley cooed.
"Ash you need a man!" Billy laughed.
"I am just so happy for you two, you to are so cute together." she said.
"I know, but you still need a man." he replied.
"Don't remind me." Ashley sighed.
"I try!" he laughed.
"Billy be nice to your sister!" Mac said.
"What?" he asked.
"Hey I like her!" Ashley grinned.
"Yeah me too." he grinned before he kissed her. "I plan on keeping her around for awhile!"
"Oh thanks a lot!" Mac frowned.
"No problem." he replied.
"Is he always like this?" Mac asked.
"Yeah, so get used to it you're stuck with me!" Billy laughed.
"Oh yeah?" Mac laughed.
"You know you love me." he grinned.
"Yeah I do, but you love me too." she said.
"You're right about that." he replied.
"I am always right." she replied. "Don't you know that by now?" They all laughed then turned and watch them open their gifts.
That afternoon Billy and Mac walked into the estate. "Grandma?" Mac called. "Are you here?"
"I am in here my darling." Kay responded as she walked from the kitchen. "Merry Christmas to both of you. Did you have a nice trip?"
"Yes I did, thank you grandma." Mac replied as she hugged her.
"Oh I am so glad you had fun." Kay responded.
"Oh it was wonderful, but I'll tell you all about it later." Mac smiled.
"Would you like to open your presents?" Kay asked.
"Sure, but where's dad?" Mac asked.
"Oh he went down to the shelter to help Ned pass out gifts to the children but he'll be back soon." she replied.
"Okay." Mac said as she walked into the living room
"Mrs. C, do you know where my mother is?" Billy asked.
"I am right here son." Jill said as she walked down the stairs. "Did you have fun in New York?"
"Yeah mom it was great."
"I am glad." she said with a smile. "I am glad you decided to have Christmas day here with me though."
"Me too, but mom Mac and I have something to tell you both." he said as he walked into the living room.
"Not now Billy." Mac said.
"Yes now." Jill said. "What is it son?" Jill asked.
Billy took ahold of Mac's hand and said, "Mac and I are engaged."
"No!" Jill gasped "Why?"
"Because I love her and she loves me." Billy replied.
"Do you two even know what love is?" Jill asked.
"They probably know more about love than we do." Kay interrupted.
"Oh who asked you, you old bear!" Jill snapped.
"Stop it both of you!" Billy snapped. "Can't you both just be happy for us?"
"I am happy for you as long as you wait until you graduate." Kay replied.
"We are grandma," Mac replied. "And thank you for supporting us!"
"I wish I could say the same about my mother." Billy frowned.
"I just want you to be happy and make the right decision." Jill replied.
"I am mom, I love Mac." he replied.
"But...." she tried to say.
"No mom, either you support me, or you're out of my life!" Billy cried.
"If that's what it means then I support you." Jill sighed.
"Thank you mother, I didn't want to have to say that, but I love you both." he smiled. He walked over and hugged her.
"I love you too son." she replied. "Now can we talk about this later?"
"Sure I want you to open your present anyway." he said. He grabbed Mac's hand and they all walked over to the tree. As they settled down to open gifts Mac looked at Billy and smiled. She knew that things weren't going to be easy, but as long as they were together they could over come anything!
