Chapter 1 Ashley opened the car door of her black Jetta and was hit with a blast of cold air. She quickly slipped out of the drivers seat and slammed the door before hurrying across the busy, snow covered ground of the studio parking lot. It was the first time in ten years that Los Angeles had received snow, and Ashley absolutely loved it....it really felt like home. She walked into the stuido and smiled at the security guard as he nodded to her with his usual lazy smile. She laughed slightly and walked down the hall towards her dressing room. She knew she'd be late if she didn't hurry. So once inside her dressing room she slipped out of her coat and dropped it on the couch, before turning around and heading back down the hall to the set. Ed Scott frowned as she approached and she tried to avoid his gaze. "Ashley, this is the third tine this week you've been late." He remarked crossing his arms across his chest. "I know.... I know." she explained stepping up next to David Tom who looked at her rolling his eyes as she made excuses. "I just over slept and then the snow made it hard to get here...I'm really sorry Ed, I promise it won't happen again." she assured him. "See that it doesn't!" he frowned again. "Now if we can get started, people take your places!" He then turned around and walked away, glancing back in Ashley's direction before disappearing into his office. "So..." David laughed. "You over slept?" "You could say that." She replied as they listened to the director give instructions. "What's that supposed to mean?" he snickered. "I slept over at Aaron's house and we didn't set the alarm." She said nervously as the extras gathered around them on the Crimson Lights set. David shook his head and under his breath laughed, "Kids..." Ashley's eyes flashed with anger and she snapped, " I heard that and besides, you're the one who asked!" "And I am sorry I did." he frowned. "Whatever!" she glared turning her attenion back to the director. "Action!" he called. "Mac, we can't let my mother come between us again." Billy said touching her hand. "But Billy, she's going to bring my stepdad to Genoa City if I don't stop dating you!" Mac exclaimed. "I just couldn't handle that okay? We just have to end things....please understand!" "No I can't," Billy cried. "We are meant to be together and I won't let anything happen to you, I swear!" Mac looked up into his eyes and wiped her tears away. "You won't be able to stop him!" she explained. "Maybe I can't, but I can with your help." he smiled. "We'll get through this Mac just like before. Our love can overcome anything." Mac nodded and then smiled slightly. "What would I do without you?" she asked softly. "Let's just hope you never have to find out." he smiled as they leaned forward, their lips touching softly. "Cut!" the director called. David immediately jerked away from her and sat back in his chair. Ashley looked at him for a moment and then glanced away as the director said, "That's a wrap....as usual you two were perfect." Ashley laughed remembering the numerous times they'd had to redo scenes and redo them again and again. But somehow when they did a scene perfectly, Allen forgot about it and praised them as if they were Gods. She stepped off the set and smiled as Alexis approached her. "Hey Alex," Ashley greeted her hugging her tightly. "What's up?" "Well Lauren and I are going out with Thad and Dave tonight and we thought we'd invite you and Aaron along?" Alexis explained. Ashley looked at her watch and said, "I'm suspposed to call Aaron in about twenty minutes, so I'll ask him and get back to you." she replied. "Great," Alexis smiled. "Now I have to go find Dave so we can rehearse our lines....we'll be in my dressing room, but remember to knock!" Ashley laughed at her then walked towards her dressing room. As she walked down the hall she flipped through her script and didn't notice David walking her way. She nearly bumped into him and he reached out to steady her as she swayed backwards. "Watch it Ash," he said. "You're never paying attention!" She jerked away from him and glared at him as she stepped past him without a word. He shook his head then continued on his way, not noticing Ashley watching him walk down the hall. She sighed deeply and then slipped into her dressing room. She walked over to her desk and picked up the phone dialing Aaron's number. "Hello?" a female voice answered. Ashley stood there in silence then stammered, "Who is this?" "Who is this?" the voice asked. "This is Aaron's girlfriend," Ashley snapped. "No who the h*ll are you, and why are you answering his cell phone?" "Uh oh..." the voice said and Ashley heard her set the phone down. She heard muffled voices and then she heard Aaron's voice on the line. "Hey baby," he smiled smoothly. "What's up?" "I should ask you the same question," Ashley cried. "Who was that?" "It was Sheena, my manager." he explained a little too quickly. "You mean the pretty blonde?" Ashley asked angrily. "Yeah...." he replied. "Why was she answering your cell phone?" she asked. "Because I was in the other room." he explained. "Come on Ash, honey.... You know you're the only girl for me!" Ashley sighed and nodded, "I know.... I just get a little jealous." "Hey that's fine, as long as you know you're my girl." "Yeah I know." she smiled. "Now what's up?" he questioned. "Alexis imvited us to go out tonight with her, Dave, Lauren, and Thad." she explained. "Are you interested?" "Actually sweetie, I have a business dinner tonight." he frowned. "Well do you need me to come too?" she asked. "No, no." he replied. "You go have fun with your friends and I'll call you afterwards and we'll hook up at my place for a little.....special attention." Ashley smiled and said, "Okay, but call me if things change." "I will baby," he assured her. "Love you!" "I love you too." she smiled before she hung up the phone. She leaned against the desk sighing softly, unable to believe that she had reacted so badly. She trusted Aaron and knew that he loved her. After all they had been together four months now, and things could not be more perfect between them and she intended to keep things that way. She pushed away from the desk and walked two doors down knocking on Alexis's door softly. "Come in!" she called. Ashley laughed when she saw Dave and Alexis wrapped in each others arms...scripts nowhere in sight. "I thought you two were rehearsing." Ashley grinned. "We were...." Alexis smiled. "But you know how it is...." Dave said kissing Alexis's cheek. Ashley nodded and said, "You can count me in for tonight." "What about Aaron?" Dave asked curiously. "He's got some meeting, but we're hooking up later." Ashley smiled. "Okay." Alexis smiled just as there was another knock on the door. Thad poked his head in and grinned. "Just wanted you to know that I invited David and Laura to come along tonight." "The more the merrier." Dave nodded. "Then I'll see you around six tonight at Star Light?" he asked. "Yep, we'll meet you out front." Dave nodded. "Great." he said and then he left the room closing the door behind him. "Well, I have a scene with Lauren so I better get to the set." Ashley smiled. "Did you want me to pick you up?" Alexis asked Ashley as she stood up. "No, I'll meet you there." Ashley said. Alexis nodded and smiled as Ashley turned and walked out of the room. "Did she seem okay?" Alexis asked. Dave shurgged his shoulders and said, "Maybe she and Aaron are having problems?" "I hope not," Alexis said before she sat down next to Dave and leaned her head against his shoulder. "Because if he hurts her, I'll hurt him." Dave laughed and hugged her, "That's my girl." he smiled kissing her forehead. Chapter 2 Ashley walked down the sidewalk and waved as she spotted Alexis and Dave. "Where's Thad and Lauren?" Ashley asked. "They're in line with David." Alexis replied. "Where's Laura?" Ashley asked curiously. "Wasn't she coming too?" "Something came up I guess, but Alexis thinks they broke up." Dave remarked. "You mean he's not his usual cheerful self?" Ashley asked sarcastically. Alexis frowned at her and shook her head. "Come on let's go catch up with them." Dave said trying to change the subject. They both nodded and followed him down the sidewalk. Minutes later they entered the club and found a table. "Anybody want a drink?" Thad asked. "I'm just having water." Alexis replied sitting on Dave's lap. "Me too." Ashley agreed. "I'll have my usual." Dave remarked. "Nothing for me." David said staring out at the crowd. "Me either." Lauren said before disappearing into the crowd. "She's at it again." Ashley laughed. She watched Thad walk away to order their drinks then turned to find David looking at her. "What?" she asked with a frown. "Nothing." David said shooting her a look. Dave and Alexis glanced at one another with a knowing look. "You're such a grump," Ashley remarked. "Can't you just relax and have a good time?" "It's a little hard to have a good time with the afternoon that I had!" he snapped. "Oh don't tell me, Laura broke up with you?" she smirked. "Lay off Ash!" Dave interrupted. David looked at him and then turned back to Ashley. "Actually she broke up with me," he remarked. "Something about me always thinking of something or someone else." Ashley sat there stunned and then stuttered, "I'm.... I'm sorry David. I was only kidding, I really didn't know." "Hey it's alright," he shrugged. "She's right....I don't have time for her or any other girl for that matter." With that he stood up and walked away. "Jeez Ash...." Alexis remarked. "Why were you so harsh on him? He said he'd had a rough day..." "I said I was sorry," she cried. "I really didn't know!" "I tried to warn you." Dave remarked. "Yeah I knew something was up," Alexis said. "You shouldn't have pushed!" "I'm sorry okay....I'll go talk to him." she shrugged before standing and walking in the direction David had disappeared in. Ashley walked through the crowd and spotted David at another table alone. She walked up behind him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "David... I am sorry for what I said." she explained. "Don't worry about it." he said as she sat down across from him. "Like I said.... things were headed that direction anyway." "Yeah, but no one likes to be dumped." she frowned. "I can't imagine...." Ashley stopped in mid-sentence as she looked across the floor and watched Aaron kiss another girl. David looked at her curiously and then turned around and followed her gaze. He turned back around and looked at her with concern. "Ash...." he started to say as she stood up. He tried to grab her elbow, but she slipped past him and hurried toward the crowd towards Aaron and the pretty blonde. He quickly chased after her, but he stopped, watching her approach Aaron. "You JERK!" she cried slapping him across the face. "Ash what the...." he cried in surprise. "Ash baby.... this isn't what you think!" "Don't lie to me anymore Aaron, I saw you kiss this.... this tramp!" she cried. "And you can have her because we're through, I never want to see you again!" "Ashley.... honey... sweetie..... wait!" he called after her in a pleading voice. "Wait babe, I can explain...." "I don't want to hear it!" she snapped turning to walk away. "Just stay the h*ll away from me!" David watched her walk away and hurried after her. "Ashley," he called. "Wait up!" "Why?" she asled spinning around to face him with a glare. "So you can rag on me like I did to you?" "No...." he said softly. "Because you need someone right now." Ashley looked up at him wiping her tears away. "Look let me go tell the gang that I'm taking you home and then we'll get out of here." he offered. Ashley nodded and David said, "I'll meet you at your car." Then he turned and walked through the crowd. He approached the table and Dave asked, "Did Ashley find you?" "You could say that," David remarked. "I'm actually taking her home." "What?" Alexis asked in surprise. "Why?" "You'll have to ask her." David answered. They both nodded and watched him walk away, looking at each other curiously. David walked up to Ashley who was leaning against her car shivering. "Here." he said, taking off his jacket and handing it to her. She smiled slightly and handed him her car keys. David quickly started the car and pulled away from the curb. He made the drive in silence, the only sound was Ashley's soft crying. He pulled in front of her house and got out and ran around to the other side and opened her door. They then headed inside, neither one knowing what to expect. Ashley sat down on the living room couch and sat staring at the wall across the room. David sat down next to her and touched her shoulder lightly. "Ashley... are you going to be okay?" She shook her head and suddenly leaned against his shoulder. David jumped, but slowly wrapped his arms around her as she cried. "Why would he do this?" she cried. "I love him..." "He's a jerk Ash, you said it yourself." "But I didn't mean it..." she stammered. "I love him..." "He doesn't deserve you," David assured her rubbing her back lightly. "You're too good for him and always have been." Ashley looked up at him in shock and said, "You're just saying that to make me feel better.... I know how you really feel about me." David stared at her for a moment and then said, "No Ash, I really mean it." He touched her face and wiped away her tears with his thumb lightly. "We may not get along but you deserve much better." Ashley sniffed lightly and tried to look away from him but couldn't, his eyes were locked on hers and suddenly she gasped as he pressed his lips to hers. The kiss only lasted serveral seconds but fireworks shot into the air for both of them. David pulled away first and stood up quickly. "I have to go." he said. "How?" she asked. "You drove me here." "I'll call a cab." he insisted. "Don't be silly." she remarked. "No really," he said firmly. "I have to go...." Ashley looked at him for a moment and then nodded avoiding his gaze. She heard him dial his cell phone and after several moments of silence there was a honk from outside. They said a quick good-bye and then he was gone. Ashley walked to the window and watched through the falling snow as he slid into the cab and disappeared, the cab fading into the distance. 'What have I done?' he asked himself. 'What a jerk... she doesn't love me.... she loves that idiot." He wanted to hit himself and couldn't figure out what had come over him minutes ago. She had looked so crushed, so heart broken he hadn't been able to resist. And now things would always be different. He'd worked so hard to keep his distance from her and until tonight he'd succeeded. He had watched her go from boyfriend to boyfriend and each time it killed him, breaking his heart into another piece. But what could he do? He was too old for her, things would never work out, it would just be too hard. So he had gotten involved with Laura and things seemed to have gotten better until now. If only he had concentrated on Laura more. If she had been there tonight none of this would have happened. But there was no turning back now, and in truth, he didn't want to take it back. It had been more than he had ever imagined. David shook his head and scolded himself, 'Get over it!' he told himself after he paid the cab driver. 'It's never going to happen.' Chapter 3 The next morning Ashley lay in her bed as her alarm went off. She reached over and flipped it off before rolling back over and closing her eyes. She sighed and suddenly heard a knock on her front door. She groaned and flipped back the sheets stepping out of bed with a yawn. She slipped into her black silk robe and walked down the satirs to the entry-way where she opened the door. "Ashley...." Alexis said throwing her arms around her. "I've been so worried about you... What happen last night?" Ashley followed Alexis into the living room after she closed the door. And a flash of last night's events passed before her eyes including her.... kiss with David. "Ashley..." Alexis said with concern. "Honey, are you alright? Are you okay?" Ashley shook her head and sat down next to Alexis on the couch. "I just had an awful night." she admitted. "Well tell me about it Ash, I'm worried about you." Ashley sighed and began telling Alexis about her evening and when she reached the the point of the kiss she paused. "What is it Ash?" Alexis asked. "What happen when David brought you home?" "He.... he kissed me." Ashley said softly. "What?" Alexis gasped. "Like a friendly kiss on the cheek or I want you now on the lips kiss?" "On the lips." Ashley replied. "Oh my Gosh!" Alexis grinned. "Did you kiss him back?" "You know how I feel about him," Ashley sighed. "Of course I did!" "Well this certainly changes everything!" Alexis commented. "This is so great!" "I'm not sure it is." Ashley replied. "Huh?" Alexis asked. "He left right afterwards, like it was a mistake." Ashley explained. "He couldn't get out of here fast enough." "You're kidding me," Alexis remarked. "This is weird." "Tell me about it," Ashley said. "But you're right about one thing...." "And what's that?" Alexis asked. "It certainly changes everything!" That afternoon Ashley walked into the studio and looked around nervously. Thad happen to be walking out of the front office and he smiled at the sight of her. "Hey girl," he said hugging her closely. "What happen to you last night.... you owed me a dance!" "I had an emergency, but next time I'll pay my debt." she teased. "Well as long as everything's okay?" he said. "Yeah everything is cool." she lied. "Hey by the way," he said. "Aaron was around this morning looking for you." "Is he still here?" she asked with concern. "No, he split about thirty minutes ago." Ashley sighed with relief and said, "Thanks, I'll talk to you later okay?" "You bet." he agreed before heading on his way. Ashley headed towards Ed's office and knocked on the door. "Come in!" he called. Ashley walked in and shut the door behind her. "Ashley," he smiled. "What can I do for you?" "I need a favor." she replied. "Anything." he smiled. "Aaron is not allowed back on the set." she explained. "Can I ask why?" Ed questioned. "We just broke up and I don't need him around affecting my work.... Thad said he was already here this morning." "Yes he was, but if you'd like him restricted from the studio I'll alert the security guards." Ed nodded. "Anything to keep you happy dear." "Great," she smiled. "And I better get going..... I have some things to do before taping." "Keep up the excellent work Ash." he praised her. She smiled and then left his office heading down to her dressing room. David watched her leave Ed's office and then Ed walked over to the security guard. He thought quietly to himself and then shrugged his shoulders before walking toward the set. Minutes later Ashley walked onto the set with Lauren and walked up to the Crimson Light's stage. She sat down next to David, but this time there was no whispering.... not bantering... just complete silence between them. Ashley's heart sank as did David's but neither of them looked at one another as the director gave instructions to the extras. He then called, "Action...." Mac turned to Billy and smiled, "I'm so glad you talked me into coming here today!" "Hey, I could tell you needed a break." Billy remarked. "It's hard being alone with only your thoughts... and as your boyfriend, it's my job to cheer you up!" "Well you're doing a good job." She smiled as Billy leaned in. His lips were inches from hers when she pulled away. "Cut!" the director called. "Ash, what's up? You've never done that before..." "I'm fine, let's just try that again. It won't happen again." Ashley assured him. "Okay... places everyone and action!" he called. Mac turned to Billy and smiled, "I'm so glad you talked me into coming here today!" "Hey, I could tell you needed a break." Billy remarked. "It's hard being alone with only your thoughts... and as your boyfriend, it's my job to cheer you up!" "Well, you're doing a good job." she smiled as Billy leaned in. Again he was inches away when she pulled back! "Cut!" Allen called. "Ashley sweetie.... What's up with you today? What happened to the chemistry you had yesterday?" "I've just had a rough twenty-four hours," she explained. "Can we try it one more time?" Allen nodded and looked at David silently. Ashley turned to look at David, but he looked away. She sighed and settled back in her chair as Allen called, "Action!" Mac turned to Billy and smiled, "I'm so glad you talked me into coming here today!" "Hey, I could tell you needed a break." Billy remarked. "It's hard being alone with only your thoughts... and as your boyfriend, it's my job to cheer you up!" "Well, you're doing a good job." she smiled as Billy leaned in. This time at the slightest movement made by David, Ashley jumped up and ran off the set. "Cut!" Allen called angrily. "David, what's going on? Is there something I should know about?" "I don't know," David lied. "I'll go talk to her!" "You do that!" Allen snapped as David walked away. Chapter 4 David approached Ashley's dressing room door and knocked lightly. "Come in!" she called. David opened the door and found Ashley with her back to him. He closed the door softly and said, "Ashley..." She spun around and gasped, "What are you doing here?" "I came to check on you..." he explained. "Well, I'm fine so you can go." she frowned turning away again. "Ashley, don't be like this." he sighed. "Like what?" she asked. "Different towards me." he replied, moving towards her. "I'm not." she lied. "Oh come on Ash... you know things are different after the..." he started. "After what?" she cried, spinning to face him. "After you kissed me and then walked out on me? Is that what you were going to say? Because if it was, then you're right... things are different and they'll never be the same again. Not after the way you reacted!" "Ashley I'm sorry, okay?" he pleaded. "You were upset... I didn't know what to do... I was trying to comfort you... and things went too far." "Did they?" she asked, looking at the floor. "I thought maybe..." "Maybe what?" he asked hopefully. "Nothing, never-mind." she shrugged. "You were right... it was a mistake." David's eyes widened and his heart sank. Ashley wiped away her tears and sat down on the couch, hugging herself tightly. "Ash..." he sighed, sitting next to her. "This wasn't supposed to happen..." "I know." she said softly. "It just messes up everything, but we've got to get past it. Allen's pretty p*ssed out there and he won't put up with this, you know that!" Ashley nodded and sniffed lightly, wiping her cheeks. "So let's move past it and be friends, okay?" he suggested. She nodded slowly and said, "I'll be out there in a second." "Okay." he smiled, placing a hand on her shoulder. He then stepped away and walked out of the room. 'What if it wasn't a mistake?' she asked herself. 'I felt something and I know you did too!' A week later David sat in his dressing room staring at the wall. He sighed to himself and frowned, thinking of his conversation with Ashley. ** "After what?" she cried, spinning to face him. "You were right... it was a mistake." ** 'What were you going to say?' he asked himself. 'Could it be possible you wanted that kiss as much as I did?' He shooked his head and sighed again. 'It's impossible,' he told himself. 'We work together... I'm so much older than she is... but we have that connection... it's been there from the beginning.' Just then there was a knock on the door. "Come in!" he called. "Hey man," Dave grinned. "Thad and I are going to give the night life another try tonight... why don't you come with us? Guys night out, you can forget all about Laura!" David thought for a moment and then nodded, "Count me in!" "Great," Dave smiled. "We'll meet you at Star Light, okay?" David nodded and then after Dave had closed the door he whispered, "Laura's not the one I need to forget about!" Lauren walked up to Ashley's door and knocked softly before poking her head in. "Hey girl," she smiled. "You up for a girl's night out? Maybe give Star Light another try?" Ashley looked at her and shook her head, "I'm not feeling up to it." "Oh honey, come on... I heard what Aaron did last night and Alexis and I think this is just what you need, so we're not taking no for an answer." Ashley smiled slightly and agreed, "Okay." "Good, we'll pick you up at nine!" Ashley nodded again and then leaned back against her couch with a sigh, "This might be just what I need, maybe I'll meet someone new!" |

Chapter 5 Ashley, Lauren, and Alexis walked into Star Light and smiled at one another. "Let's get ready to mingle." Lauren smiled, swaying her hips playfully. Ashley and Alexis laughed and then found a table before heading out into the crowd. Ashley had on tight black leather pants, a red halter top that showed her curves, and cute little black sandals. As she moved through the crowd she noticed the looks that were sent her way, but she didn't care... she was there for a night of fun with her girls! David walked into Star Light with Thad and Dave. Dave nudged him, pointing out a hot red head at a nearby table and David smiled with a nod. They quickly found a table and then moved through the crowd. Dave spotted Alexis immediately and excused himself, quickly approaching her from behind. He tapped her on the shoulder and she spun around looking at him in surprise. "Hey baby," she smiled winding her arms around his neck. "What are you doing here?" "A night with the guys, what about you?" he asked kissing her lightly. "A night with the girls," she laughed. "What are the chances?" Dave laughed and then moved closer to her as a seductive song came on. David walked away from Thad as he started talking to some blonde and continued to wander through the crowd. Suddenly he spotted a brunette standing with her back to him and he looked her over. 'Nice a**,' he thought with a smirk, approaching her. He touched her shoulder and leaned into a whisper, "Hey baby, wanna dance?" Ashley's eyes widened and she turned around, as her smile quickly turned into a shocked stare. "David?" she asked. "Ash," he gasped. "I had no idea it was you!" "Obviously," she replied. "What are you doing here?" "I'm out with Thad and Dave," he replied. "What about you?" "I'm here with Lauren and Alexis, they said I needed to get out and meet someone new." 'Like h*ll you do,' he thought. "Well, as long as we're here, care to dance?" he asked hopefully. Ashley looked at him for a moment and then nodded with a smile. They moved out into the crowd and David placed his hands on her hips as their bodies moved together. Like a movie scene In the sweetest dream I have pictured us together Now to feel your hips On my finger tips I have to say it's even better Then I ever thought it could possibly be It's perfect, it's passion It's setting me free From all of my sadness The tears that I've cried I have spent all of my life Ashley moved her hips against David's and he thought he would lose it right then and there. She looked so perfect and he couldn't seem to get her close enough for his liking. He smiled down at her and the look in her eyes said volumes. Truth be told, Ashley had decided earlier that night that she was going to make it known, in not so many words, that she was interested in David. And it seemed that somebody or something had been on her side tonight. She's secretly been thrilled that he'd been there and that he'd approached her, whether he's meant to or not. Waiting for tonight When you would be here in my arms Waiting for tonight I've dreamed of this love for so long Waiting for tonight Tender words you would say Take my breath away Love me now, leave me never Found a sacred place Lost in your embrace I want to stay in this forever I think of the days when the sun used to set Oh my empty heart, all alone in my bed Tossing and turning Emotions were strong I knew I had to hold on David pulled her up against him and she felt every inch of him rubbing against her. She smiled up at him seductively and he leaned down, his breath warming her ear. She felt his lips on her neck and she smiled as his tongue moved down her neck to her shoulder. They continued to move together and everything around them was forgotten as Ashley tightened her arms around his neck. Waiting for tonight When you would be here in my arms Waiting for tonight I've dreamed of this love for so long Waiting for tonight Gone are the days when the sun used to set Oh my empty heart, all alone in my bed Tossing and turning Emotions were strong I knew I had to hold on Waiting for tonight When you would be here in my arms Waiting for tonight I've dreamed of this love for so long Waiting for tonight As the song ended, David looked down at Ashley and their gazes locked. "You wanna get out of here?" he asked in her ear. She smiled and nodded as he took her hand, leading her through the crowd. "I have to tell them I'm leaving." Ashley explained. "Yeah, um... meet me out front.." he agreed. She nodded and they parted ways, disappearing into the crowd. Ashley found Lauren and touched her shoulder. "Oh hey Ash, having a good time?" she asked. "Yeah, but I'm leaving." Ashley replied. "What? Why?" Lauren asked. "Do you need me to take you home?" "No actually I met someone." she smiled. "Oh well then by all means... have fun!" Lauren winked. Ashley grinned and said, "Tell Alexis not to worry." "I will." Lauren called as Ashley walked away. David approached Thad and grabbed his elbow. "Hey man, what's up?" he asked. "I'm outta here." David replied. "Why?" Thad asked curiously. "I ah... met someone." he said with a wink. "Well, then that's all you have to say my man." he laughed. "But I want details tomorrow!" "You got it." David smirked and then he too disappeared into the crowd. David approached Ashley out front and wrapped an arm around her waist and headed into his jeep. They made the drive in silence and once they'd reached David's front door Ashley hesitated. "We don't have to do this." he assured her. She looked up at him and smiled, stepping closer. "I just want to make sure you want it." she said, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Oh, I want it." he grinned. "More than you know!" He quickly lowered his lips to hers and kissed her deeply. He scooped her up into his arms and carried her inside, his hands wandering her body. He set her down long enough to close the door and she was in his arms again. She looked up at him and the look in her eyes made him groan as he picked her up again and carried her up the stairs. Chapter 6 David carried Ashley up to his bedroom and placed her on her feet facing him. He smiled down at her and she smiled up at him, a mix of emotions in both their eyes. "Are you sure..." David asked with a husky voice. "I've never been more sure of anything in my entire life." she assured him touching his face. David kissed her deeply as he untied her top and tossed it across the room. Ashley's hands slowly and teasingly lifted his shirt over his head and then brought her lips to his chiseled chest. David's hands wandered her body and found their way to the waist of her pants. He quickly undid the snap of her pants and moments later they were both down to their underwear. He smirked slightly and lowered her onto the bed. He smoothed the hair out of her face and then kissed her forehead softly before kissing her lips again. Ashley ran her hands up and down his back and arms and as David traced his lips from her throat to her chest, she heard him groan as he rolled off of her. She looked at the ceiling in surprise and then rolled over, looking at him curiously. "Why did you stop?" she asked. "Because..." he replied. "There's so much more going on here and before anything happens there's some things we've got to get straight." "Okay..." Ashley responded with uncertainly. "But I'm not sure what you're talking about." David sat up in bed and leaned his head against the head board, sighing as he turned his head to look at her. "First of all... if this happens, it's not going to be a 'Hey, let's hook up tonight and then in the morning go our separate ways, acting like it never happened'..." he explained. "What it will be like is a 'Hey, I like you alot and I can see a relationship developing here'... let's do things right and see where it leads." Ashley smiled at him and nodded, "I don't want a one night stand either." she agreed. "But what else is there to discuss?" "The other night... when I kissed you... it wasn't a mistake... it wasn't an accident... I wanted it." he confessed. Ashley blushed and admitted, "Whether I knew it or not... I wanted it too." David smiled and pulled her into his lap, kissing her softly. "You know this isn't going to happen tonight, don't you?" he whispered, looking her in the eye. "I know..." she sighed, leaning against his chest. "But can I at least stay over?" "I wasn't planning on letting you leave." he said, scooting down to lie on his back. Ashley snuggled close and they both quickly fell asleep. The next morning they were awoken by the doorbell ringing. David stretched and rolled out of bed, motioning for Ashley to stay where she was as he slid on his pants. He jumped at the feel of the cold floor beneath his feet and hurried into the hall and down the stairs. He opened the door and Thad burst in with a grin on his face. "So.." he said. "Where is she? Did you get lucky last night?" David rolled his eyes and walked into the living room. "Aren't you going to answer me?" Thad asked. "You said I could have the details!" "I know, I know." David responded. "But things didn't work out the way I thought they would." Thad looked at him curiously just as he heard footsteps on the stairs. Thad turned to look at who it was and gasped with wide eyes as Ashley appeared in the doorway. "David," she called. "Who is it?" She suddenly stopped, her gaze falling on Thad and she turned a bright red. "Nice robe." Thad commented as he looked at the black silk robe. "Thanks..." she said nervously. "I ah... found it in the closet." "It was Laura's." David commented. "Sorry..." she said softly. "No, take it... I don't want it." he assured her. They both looked at Thad and he looked at them both in shock. "So... ah..." he stammered. "I'm speechless..." Ashley laughed silently and walked over to David. "So am I." she agreed. "Well, um... I think I'm going to go." Thad laughed. "I bet you two could use some rest after the night I'm sure you two had..." "Actually nothing happen." David insisted. Thad looked at him and shook his head, "Whatever you say..." Thad grinned. "No really," Ashley replied. "We decided to take things slow." "Well, I wouldn't call this slow." Thad commented. "Like I said... things didn't work out like I'd planned." David reminded him. Thad shook his head again and walked to the door. "Call me later man!" he called before walking out the door. Ashley looked at David and then burst out laughing as he hugged her tightly. Chapter 7 The next afternoon Ashley walked down the street with Alexis as they wandered through the shops, trying to find Christmas gifts. "So..." Alexis smiled. "I hear you and David hooked up the other night." "Where'd you hear that?" Ashley asked, avoiding Alexis's gaze. "A little birdie told me," Alexis grinned. "So spill it!' Ashley laughed softly and sat down at a table in front of their favorite cafe. "It just kinda happened," she explained. "What can I say?" "You can tell me if anything has... well... you know... happened between you two..." Alexis hinted. "Have you and David slept together?" Ashley laughed, "No, and we're in no hurry... David wants to do things right." "How romantic." Alexis cooed. "I'm just so happy for you two, I mean the whole cast has known for months now that he's been in love with you." Ashley looked at her in shock and asked, "Did you say months?" Alexis nodded and remarked, "It's been so obvious, but you were so busy pushing his buttons that I guess you never noticed." "I just always thought he hated me... thought of me as a child." Ashley exclaimed. "I really had no idea!" "Well, we're all glad you finally got a clue." Alexis teased. "Me too," Ashley laughed. "I feel amazing..." "Love does that to you," Alexis agreed. "Dave makes me feel the same way and believe me, it gets better." They both laughed and then they stood up and continued walking. "So what are you getting him for Christmas?" Alexis asked. "I have no idea," Ashley replied glancing into a store window. "It's only the fifth of December, I mean I have almost a month." "Well, guys are always hard to buy for, so I've had Dave's gift for weeks now." Alexis said. "I'll have to ask him what he wants," Ashley remarked. "That should at least give me some ideas." "Don't count on it... if he's like most guys, he won't give you a straight answer." Alexis frowned. "Dave always says, 'Oh I don't care, whatever you pick out will be great!'. He never gives me any ideas." Ashley smiled and as they continued to walk down the street, Ashley's mind whirled with ideas for David's gift. That same afternoon David sat in his dressing room with Dave. "So how are things with Ash?" Dave asked curiously. "How'd you know about that?" David asked. "Thad told the whole cast man," Dave laughed. "Does that surprise you?" "No, I guess not." David remarked. "He does have a big mouth." They both laughed and Dave asked, "What are you getting her for Christmas?" "I have a couple of ideas, but I've got time to make a decision." "Well, I'm headed over to Bloomingdales tonight to pick something up for Alexis, so if you want to join me let me know." Dave offered as he stood up. "Thanks, but I can handle things... I have just the thing in mind for her." Dave smiled knowing David had something up his sleeve and then waved before slipping out the door. Over the next couple of days, Ashley and David spent all their time together. They walked through the still falling snow, holding hands and laughing and other times they sat in front of a roaring fire wrapped in each others arms. All they cared about was being together. A week after David's discussion with Dave about what to get Ashley for Christmas, David walked into London Jewelers and walked around, gazing into the showcases. "Can I help you, sir?" the woman asked with a smile. "I'm looking for something special." he replied as he stepped in front of a showcase. "Well, do you have an idea of what you're looking for?" she asked. "Earrings? A necklace? Maybe a bracelet?" "Actually, I was thinking of something a little more in this area." he said pointing into the case. "In fact I think that's exactly what I'm looking for, do you take credit cards?" "Certainly, but wouldn't you like to know the price first?" she asked, removing the item from the case. "Nope, nothings too good for Ashley." he smiled. "Very well then, follow me and we'll get things settled." the woman instructed. A few moments later David walked out of the store and smiled to himself. Ashley was in for the surprise of her life! Chapter 8 That night Aaron sat behind his desk and stared out at the falling snow. He'd heard about Ashley and David from an mutual friend and the idea of Ashley being with someone else made fire flash in his eyes. She was his Ash and no one else's. And he knew just the way to break them up, sending Ashley right back into his waiting arms, right where she belonged. He laughed to himself and then looked down at a picture of Ashley and him on his desk. She was hugging him tightly, a smile on her face and light in her eyes. "You'll be with me soon babe," he said aloud. "Real soon!" David walked into White Sand Cafe and found a seat in the back corner where he and Ashley always sat. He settled into the booth and picked up a menu. As he looked in over, a movement caught his eye and he looked up expecting to see Ashley. Instead he watched a petite blonde walk up to him and smiled. "Hi handsome," she greeted. "Mind if I join you?" David was about to decline when she slid into the booth next to him and placed a hand on his knee. "Whoa..." he said removing her hand. "I have a girlfriend, in fact she'll be here any moment." "Well, I'll just keep you company until then," she smiled. "My name's Sheila." "Um... look Sheila..." he stammered as she touched his arm. "You really can't be here..." She frowned at him slightly and said, "Most guys like my company..." "Well, I'm not most guys." he said. "We'll just see about that." she smirked as she suddenly leaned forward and pressed her lips to his. Ashley walked into the Cafe and looked around, remembering David telling her to meet him in their booth. She smiled, unable to wait to see him, but stopped as she saw a woman sitting with David. She couldn't hear the conversation, but a gasp escaped her throat as she watched the woman suddenly lean in and kiss David. Tears filled her eyes and a sob escaped her throat as she spun on her heels and hurried towards the door. But as she pushed it open, she bumped into someone and looked up into familiar eyes. "Ash, baby... what's wrong?" Aaron asked. "Why are you crying?" "Aaron?" she gasped. "I... I... just get me out of here!" "Sure honey," he smirked putting an arm around her. "I'll do whatever you say..." Aaron led her to his car and helped her settle into the passenger seat before hurrying around and climbing into the driver's side. Moments later they were speeding down the road in silence while Ashley tried to compose herself. "Feeling any better?" he asked finally. "As good as I can feel." she whispered, looking out the window. "Care to tell me what happened?" he pressed. Ashley sighed and said, "David did the exact same thing you did to me!" "Oh Ash, I'm sorry." he frowned, "I really never meant to hurt you and since that night I haven't been able to think of anything but you." "Save it," she snapped. "I'm not taking anymore of your lies!" Aaron pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the engine before turning to face her. "Look Ash, I'm sorry!" he pleaded. "I never meant for anything like this to happen. You mean the world to me and I know I've messed up. But please give me another chance. Think of how things used to be, I love you Ashley. Don't you still love me?" Ashley looked at him for a moment and she thought she saw true remorse in his eyes. She blinked back the tears and looked at her feet. "Ash, baby!" he pleaded, lifting her chin with his finger tips. "Please take me back..." Aaron watched her and saw the resolve leave her eyes and he smiled leaning forward to press his lips to hers. Ashley melted in his arms and wrapped her arms around his neck. Aaron groaned and lifted her out of her seat and into his lap so she was straddling him. "Oh Ash," he moaned as she kissed his neck. "I've missed you so much." "I've missed you too." she said, unbuttoning his shirt. "Whoa babe," he laughed. "We're right in downtown... we can't do this here." "Then take us to my place." she smiled down at him. "I'm not going to argue." he said as she slid to her seat. He quickly started the engine and sped off as Ashley pushed thoughts of David from her mind. David pushed the woman away and glared, "What the h*ll are you doing?" "I just thought... you look lonely." she smiled. "Well, I'm not so get lost!" he snapped. Sheila frowned and stood up, smiling at him once more before walking out of the cafe. "Where are you Ash?" he asked, looking at his watch. He sighed and stared out the window before sliding out of the booth and walking out of the cafe. He dialed her cell phone but the answering machine picked up, so he hung up as he headed to his jeep. 'Maybe she forgot,' he told himself as he steered the jeep out of the parking lot and headed towards her place. Chapter 9 As David drove down the road he pulled out his cell phone again and dialed Ashley's number. "Come on Ash," he pleaded. "Answer you d*mn phone!" Suddenly he heard the click and her shallow breathing. "Ash honey, is that you?" he asked. "Answer me Ash, you've got me worried..." Ash and Aaron hurried up her front steps and unlocked the door. And once inside Aaron pushed her against the wall and pulled her coat off, tossing it across the room. He then lifted her up and carried her upstairs. Once in her room they scrambled to the bed and kissed deeply. "What's the rush, baby?" he whispered into her ear. "I just didn't realize how much I missed you." she rasped as he kissed her neck. "Well, in that case..." he smiled. "I missed you too.... and I'm going to show you just how much." Suddenly Ashley's cell phone rang and she sighed. "Ignore it." Aaron insisted. Ashley laughed and pulled it out of her back jeans pocket. She sighed deeply and then answered it. But before she could reply she heard David's voice. "Ash honey, is that you?" he asked. "Answer me Ash, you've got me worried..." Her heart flipped and her stomach flipped. She sat up, pushing Aaron off of her and climbed out of the bed. "What do you want?" she hissed, walking into the hall. "What are you talking about Ash?" he asked. "Where are you? You didn't meet me at the Cafe." "Oh I was there alright," she cried. "Just long enough to see you and that bimbo!" "Huh?" he remarked. "Oh Gosh Ash, that wasn't what you think... I can explain!" "Save it for someone who cares..." she said coldly. "We're through and there's nothing you can do to change my mind!" "Ash baby!" Aaron called, knowning it was David. "Come back to bed and I'll make you forget all about that jerk!" "Who the h*ll is that?" David cried angrily. "No one." she lied. "That was Aaron, wasn't it?" David questioned. "Well if he's who you want, you won't hear me trying to stop you! Anyone stupid enough to go back to that idiot isn't someone I want to be involved with anyway!" "David..." she said with tears in her eyes. "It's not..." "No, go back to him!" he snapped. "You two deserve one another, I'll see you around!" And with that Ashley dropped the phone and cried silently. "Don't cry over him... not after what he did." Aaron said. "Come back to bed... you know you want to." "No, I don't!" she said flatly. "What I want if for you to leave... Now!" "You don't mean that," Aaron remarked. "I love you..." "No, you love the chase!" she snapped. "I know you had something to do with that today... now that I think about it, today wasn't a coincidence... it was much, much more." "Ashley, what are you talking about?" he asked in a fake shock. "You know d*mn well what I'm talking about!" she hissed. "You couldn't stand it that I dumped you and that I had moved on with someone else... I know you Aaron, better than you think I do, so get the h*ll out and never come near me again!" "Fine," he cried. "You're right... I had everything to do with today... and it worked! You and David are through and you're left all alone... You were just another challenge and if your lover-boy hadn't called and interrupted us, I would have conquered you once again. But no big deal, I did enough damage when I let David hear my voice, now he'll never want anything to do with you ever again!" Ashley let the sobs escape her lips and she cried, "Get out, I hate you!" Aaron laughed and turned, taking the stairs three at a time before slamming the door behind him. Ashley slid to the floor and buried her head in her hands. "What have I done?" she cried. "Gosh, David... what have I done?" David threw his cell phone into the passenger seat next to him and steered the car away from Ashley's house. He then reached into his front jacket pocket and pulled out a black velvet box. He gripped it in his fist and held back the tears that threatened to spill over as his heart broke. He slowly rolled down the window and made a motion to throw the box into the falling snow, but held onto it tightly, unable to let it go. "D*mn!" he hissed, rolling the window back up. "Just forget her!" He tucked the ring back into his pocket and continued driving towards his house, fighting the urge to turn the jeep around and go back to Ashley's, where he knew he belonged. Chapter 10 Two weeks later, David sat in his living room staring at the blazing fire that was crackling before him. In the background, music was playing and the words brought back memories of the short time he and Ashley had been together. Christmas ain't the same without you It just doesn't feel like it used to Waiting for the day I'll see you again I hold my breath and pray to the stars for you until then He sighed to himself and then turned to watch Dave and Alexis walk in from the kitchen. "David," Alexis frowned. "Are you going to be okay?" "Yeah man, we could stay..." Dave commented. "No, it's Christmas Eve..." David insisted. "I'll be fine, I know you guys have other places to be." "Are you sure?" Alexis asked, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Yes," he said with a fake smile. "Go on.. I'll see you guys tomorrow sometime." Dave nodded to Alexis and then went to retrieve their coats. "She made a mistake..." Alexis said quietly. "And now she's paying for it." "I'm paying for it just as much as she is!" David remarked coldly. "It's over Lex, so don't get any ideas." She nodded and then allowed Dave to slip her coat over her shoulders. "We should be going." he said, hugging David tightly. "Have a good one!" David called as he opened the door and then walked back into the living room, watching the lights twinkle on the tree. He sighed again and flopped back down on the couch, losing himself in the flames of the fire. Ashley sat on the living room floor watching the tree in front of her. She shivered slightly and scooted over towards the fireplace, reaching for the eggnog on the coffee table. Her thoughts drifted back several days to the conversation she'd had with Alexis and even though it hurt to admit it, everything Alexis had said was true. ** "Come on Ash," Alexis said. "He's hurting just as much as you are, if not more.." "Alexis," Ashley snapped. "I made a mistake.. people do that... no one's perfect!" "I'm not saying they are," she insisted. "What I am saying though is that he has a right to be angry!" "I know that," Ashley remarked. "I screwed up, but he won't even let me explain! How can I fix things if he won't even let me explain?" "I don't know," Alexis said quietly. "But if he means that much to you, you'll figure out a way. Otherwise, you'll lose him forever." "Don't you think I know that?" Ashley said sadly. "I mean he's perfect and I let one misunderstanding rip him away from me. All because Aaron couldn't stand to see me happy with anyone but him!" "Aaron's a jerk," Alexis remarked. "I tried to tell you that..." "And once again, I didn't listen." Ashley sighed. "Well, this time is different, I'm going to do something." "And what's that?" Alexis asked. "I'm not sure yet." Ashley frowned. "Well, you'd better think fast." Alexis reminded her. "You're running out of time!" ** Ashley had spoken to Alexis several days ago and she still had no idea how she was ever going to persuade David to forgive her. She shook her head and then jumped as the phone rang. "Hello?" she answered. "Ash," Thad smiled. "How's it going doll?" "Fine." she lied. "Do you want me to stop by?" he asked. "No, no... I'm fine." she insisted. "Go have fun..." "Are you sure?" he asked. "I don't mind making an appearance and then coming over there." "I'm sure," she smiled slightly. "I'll see you tomorrow." "Okay, love ya." he grinned. "Same here." she said before clicking the off button. She placed the phone back on the table and rode to her feet. She stared into the fire and then looked at the front door before quickly grabbing her coat and keys. She stepped out into the falling snow and dashed to her car. Once inside she whispered, "I've got to do something..." |

Chapter 11 David stood at the fireplace and looked into the mirror as he held the black velvet box in his right hand. He hadn't been able to take it back, something held him from returning it. He carried it with him all the time and looked at it often as a reminder. He squeezed it tightly and then looked out the window as he heard a car pull up out front. 'Who could that be?' he asked himself as the doorbell rang. Ashley stepped out of her car and walked up the front path to David's door. She stood there for a moment and hesitated as she reached out to ring the doorbell. She sighed deeply and pressed the button lightly. She heard him walk to the door and her heart flipped as it opened, revealing his surprised face. It only took a second and his surprise face was gone, anger now showing in his eyes. "What do you want?" he snapped. "David, please..." she pleaded. "We need to talk." "I have nothing to say to you," he frowned. "I said everything I wanted the other day." "I know, but I need to say a few things." she insisted. "Please David... it'll only take a second and then I'll leave and never look back... please?" David sighed and stepped aside, allowing her to slip past him. She walked into the living room and looked around quietly. "Well..." he asked from the doorway. "Say what you have to say and then get out!" Ashley looked at him silently for a second and then sighed, "I'm sorry..." she started. "For everything... for not believing in you... for thinking you'd kiss someone else... for turning to Aaron.. and for every other way I've hurt you! I was hurt... confused... and I didn't know what I was doing. I turned to Aaron because he gave me some smooth speech and I fell for it, wanting to be loved. But I never slept with him that day or since then. Nothing happened, I swear!" David looked at her for a moment and then asked, "Why should I believe you?" "Because... I... I love you." she said, looking at him truthfully. "I always have and I always will." She stared at him quietly, praying he'd say something, but he only stood there. She wiped the tears away and then said, "Well I guess I'll go...." She hesitated for a moment and then swept past him, walking towards the door. But David grabbed her elbow and stopped her. "Ashley..." he whispered. "Why did this happen?" "I don't know..." she replied looking at his hand on her arm. "Don't go..." he whispered, pulling her into his arms and hugging her tightly. "I love you and can't bare losing you..." "Gosh, David!" she cried, wrapping her arms around his neck. "I was afraid you'd let me walk out of here." "Never," he assured her as they walked into the living room. "At least not before I get the chance to ask you something first!" "And what's that?" she asked. David sat down next to her and stared into her eyes. The snow is falling The city is white Your eyes are shining Like diamonds tonight And we're alone There's no one home You're finally in my arms again The night is silent And Christmas is here I couldn't ask for more Than having you near Cause I love you girl And I always will And now I know The moment is right Cause I've been waiting To give this gift tonight I'm down on my knees There's no better time It's something to last As long as you live Tonight I'm gonna give you All my heart can give I thought I'd give you Something shiny and new I tried to find something Worthy of you But I realized When I looked inside There are some thing's That money can't buy I feel the magic Whenever you're near I feel it even more This time of the year Cause I love you girl And I always will And now I know The moment is right Cause I've been waiting To give this gift tonight I'm down on my knees There's no better time It's something to last As long as you live Tonight I'm gonna give you All my heart can give You know I'll always Be true to you And you know I'm the one you Can turn to Anytime, any place Or anywhere You know that I'll Always be there Cause I love you girl And I always will And now I know The moment is right Cause I've been waiting To give this gift tonight I'm down on my knees There's no better time It's something to last As long as you live Tonight I'm gonna give you All my heart can give "David, what are you doing?" she asked as he took her hand. "Ashley... I thought my life had ended when I lost you..." he explained. "And I want to make sure I never lose you again. I know we said we were going to do this the right way, but I can't wait and take the chance of something else tearing us apart... this time it's for good." He suddenly scooted to the floor and knelt in front of her. "So..." he said, pulling the black velvet box out of his pocket. "Will you do the honor of becoming my wife?" Ashley's hand flew to her mouth and she gasped softly. She couldn't find the words, so she nodded excitedly and leaned forward, hugging him tightly. "Of course I will..." she stammered as he slipped the ring on her finger. They kissed deeply and then hugged again, not wanting to let go because they were afraid it would all be a dream. Ashley looked at the ring as it twinkled on her finger. "I feel so bad..." she sighed. "I didn't get you anything at all." "Don't worry," he assured her as he touched her face. "I got everything I wanted... All I want for Christmas... is you..." Ashley smiled and hugged him tightly. "I love you." she whispered before kissing him deeply. "I love you too," he smiled against her lips. "More than you'll ever know!" ~The End~ |
