Summary: A coalition of vile aliens including the Badoon & the Brood have stolen Earth's heroes and placed them in an arena-style showdown against each other. Using nanotechnology to control the heroes, a contest to determine Earth's greatest champions is arranged.

As various bouts of skill and power take place in this fabricated alien environment, two of Earth's heroes are subjected to biological experiments by the alien Brood! Kitty Pryde the X-Man known as Shadowcat awakens to find herself imprisoned next to her former ally, Carol Danvers AKA Warbird. The Brood have captured Carol in an effort to duplicate the process which once transformed her into the celestial powerhouse called Binary. Once this is accomplished, the Brood plan to use this technique to transform all their offspring into similarly powered entities. Despite the fact that her body is being transformed into that of a Brood, Carol's will is strong and she is determined not to let the Brood get away with their sinister plan.

Comments: This story takes place immediately after the events in Avengers #18. This is made clear by the fact that Carol is still dressed in the copy of her original Kree uniform that the Doomsday Man dressed in her during the preceding story arc in Avengers #16-18.
