Deathbird

The treacherous Shi'ar warrior called Deathbird has been an enemy of Carol Danvers since her early days as Ms. Marvel. Unlike many of Carol's foes, Carol fought Deathbird as both Ms. Marvel and Binary. When Deathbird was first exiled from the Shi'ar Empire, she came to Earth seeking refuge and allies. She quickly allied herself with Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM) and their leader, M.O.D.O.K. While serving as AIM's agent, Deathbird was sent against Ms. Marvel, who had proven a thorn in AIM's side since her earliest adventures as Ms. Marvel. The alien warrior met her match in the Female Fury and the two fought to a standstill on each occassion they battled. Carol's victories in these fights were always by a narrow margin.

By the time Carol had become Binary, Deathbird had returned to the Shi'ar Empire and seized the throne belonging to her sister, Lilandra. Binary's new cohorts in the Starjammers has all been victims of one Shi'ar tyrant, Deathbird's elder brother D'Ken and were determined not to allow another reign of terror in the Shi'ar system. Allying themselves with Lilandra and her consort, Professor Charles Xavier, the Starjammers successfully defeated Deathbird and restored Lilandra to her rightful place as Majestrix Shi'ar. During this rebellion, Carol as Binary faced off against many of Deathbird's minions, including the ever-loyal Gladiator and the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. Gladiator was one of the few beings Carol fought as Binary whom she considered a real challenge.
