Title: Burning Need
Story: Kurt Busiek/Roger Stern
Art: Mark Bagley
Summary: Over dinner, Tony Stark and Carol Danvers discuss the recent reappearance of Goldenblade and the Sapper, old foes of Ms. Marvel. Carol has learned that the pair occassionally resurface and drain energy from various sources. Over the course of dinner, it becomes obvious to Tony that Carol is still struggling to keep herself from drinking. He again urges her to seek the support of Alcoholics Anonymous. Their discussion is interrupted by a call from Jocasta, informing Tony that a fire is blazing at a nearby Roxxon refinery. Iron Man and Warbird respond to the crisis.
As the pair of heroes valiantly fight the blazing inferno, Warbird ponders Tony's suggestion to join AA. She vows to handle things on her own....the way she always has! She reflects on the hardships of her past and her burning desire for a drink. Together, the pair of Avengers manage to avert a major explosion and save lives. Iron Man emphasizes that in some cases, it takes teamwork and relying on others to solve a problem. Carol continues to resist Tony's attempts to help. Iron Man realizes that Carol is not buying into the idea of getting help for her drinking problem and worries that she is heading for a major fall.
Comments: Carol states in this issue that it's been three weeks since her last drink, but it's clear that she is still struggling to stay sober.
