Carol's deep space adventures as Binary brought her into both conflict and alliance with the novice Avenger and Protector of the Universe, Quasar. When they first met, Carol was on a mission for the Shi'ar Majestrix Lilandra, who was allied with the Starjammers throughout Binary's membership. After a brief confrontation, Binary learned that Quasar's true purpose was to save Earth's sun from destruction. Torn between her mission for Lilandra and saving her home planet, Carol's choice was clear. Joining Quasar in the heart of the sun, Carol was able to use her star-channeling powers as Binary to save the day. Her effort was not without a price. The tremendous strain of saving Sol left her completely drained (and completely bald!) Luckily, Quasar was there to pull her out and rushed her to Avengers Mansion for medical attention. Quasar was surprised to learn that Binary used to be the Avenger known as Ms. Marvel. Following her recovery, Binary and Quasar found themselves as allies on a number of other occassions.
