Botanical Gardens / Lista de Aves, del Jardin
Botanico,
Santo Domingo(updated, Feb. 12, 2009 - actualizado 12 feb 2009)
Right in the middle of the capital city of
Botanical Gardens. It is a haven for birds, mostly common city species, like the Bananaquit,
the Vervain Hummingbird,
the Antillean Mango, the larger of the two common hummingbirds(Photo by Cursorius)
and the abundant Hisp. Woodpecker(photo by Cursorius);
but also a few of the less common
endemics, like the Broad-billed Tody and the
West Indian Whistling Duck / Yaguaza - a main target bird at the Gardens (somewhat scarce here, but very much so elsewhere)
the Limpkin is fairly easy to find in the Gardens
Also migratory birds
Blackpoll Warbler / Cigüita Casconegro
and regional specialties.

Easily accessible and cheap(US$5 entrance fee for foreigners). Ask directions from anyone.

You can arrange guide services through the contacts available on this site("Why birdwatch..." page).
