The Eastern Chat Tanager, Calyptophilus frugivous: a very rare endemic found in the Cordillera Central mountians. Has a distinct melodious whistling song.
The charming Antillean Euphonia, Euphonia musica, found in the mountains of Hispaniola and also found in Puerto Rico and the Lesser Antilles.
The endemic Hispaniolan Parakeet, Aratinga Chloroptera, is gregarious and raucous. Widespread but much reduced in numbers in the island, due to hunting, pet trade and habitat destruction.
Two stunning photos of the Hispaniolan Parrot in the wild, Amazona ventralis. Still can be found in the more remote mountains and forests of the Dominican Republic; also endemic.
A male Village Weaver, Ploceus cucullatus; this species was introduced from West Africa during the colonial period, and is very common.
The national bird of the Dominican Republic, the unique Palm Chat(Dulus dominicus). The only species in the Dulidae family. Very common throughout the island, except in high mountains. Endemic.
Called, "Cuatro Ojos"(four eyes) by Dominicans, this striking bird is a Black-crowned Palm Tanager, Phaenicophilus palmarum. Common throughout the country. Endemic.
An adult Burrowing Owl(Athene cunicularia). Found in the south and western parts of the the Dominican Republic.
Magnificent Frigatebirds. Found along most of the coastal regions, mostly in the southeast and far southwest.
Eladio is talented not only as a wildlife photographer, but in artistic terms as well, as seen with these Black-necked Stilts.
