            | Pacific Hermit Thrush:  Yosemite National Park,
Nunatak Nature Trail near Tioga Pass, elevation 9,700', 6/14/03,
long recording (665kb) featuring a variety of songs and
calls.  The Hermit Thrush begins with a single drawn out note
like the Varied Thrush, followed by song sequences beginning at
different points on the scale like the Wood Thrush executed in a
spiraling manner like the Swainson's Thrush or Veery. | wave777 |

Nunatak Nature Trail near Tioga Pass, elevation 9,700', 6/14/03,
shorter recording (139kb).  The Hermit Thrush sang from the
branch of a Lodgepole Pine (rather open Lodgepole Pine forest)
from a height of about 10'.  Snow was still one foot deep in
              sections and
a light warm wind blows in the background. | wave778 |
            | While Hermit Thrush are regularly observed in New Jersey
during the winter months, for example at Cheesequake State Park, I
have not heard any sounds. | |
