Wood Warbler

Yellow-rumped song:  Grand Tetons National Park, Lupine Meadow Trial, elevation approximately 8,000.  Recorded in a sagebrush clearing between Lodgepole Pine stands with Green-tailed Towhee. 6/20/05 (71kb). Notice ascending suffix after introductory two note trill.  The song is repeated with no alternating ascending and descending suffix.  wave882
On breeding territory at summit of Slide Mountain, 4,200', mossy, boggy rainforest-like habitat with Red Spruce and Balsam Firm, 6/23/04 (66kb).  Trill followed by descending suffix.  Compare with breeding song at Yosemite below.  Notice long pause between two song sequences typical of quiet, summit environment.  There was virtually no human environmental noise at this location.   wave832

In breeding territory at Yosemite National Park, Hodgdon Meadow Campground, two part song, singing high in Ponderosa Pine (71kb).  Notice high note between initial trill and descending suffix in initial sequence and second sequence which ends with high note and no suffix.  This Yellow-rump alternates his song variation between a song with and without the descending suffix.      wave835
