•Launched
in 1966 based on a shortened 124 Saloon floorpan - the Spider was
destined to become a favourite in the USA, while the saloon was later
resurrected as the Russian Lada!
•Designed
& built by Pininfarina alongside Ferrari 246 & 308 bodies
•Produced
‘66 -’85 over AS,BS,CS1,CS2,CSA,CS0 & DS variants from 1400-2000cc -
with over 150,000 made - no RHD versions ever officially came to UK, but
3 versions of 124 Coupes enjoyed greater sales success in Britain than
their contemporary, the Ford Capri!
•Road
legal Abarth Rally versions “CSA” were produced to meet homologation
requirements of the World Rally Championships - the real Rally versions
scooped some top places before being superseded by the 131 Abarth Rally,
then the Lancia Delta Integrale - all three of these cars were fitted
with Lampredi Twin Cam powertrains.
•This
car is a replica of the rare CSA & sports the popular red (152) & black
two tone colour scheme.
The
Rally cars would have had matt finish bonnets to reduce glare on night
stages!
•Originally
an all red (152) California specification CS1, with 1756cc Twin Cam
block, it was imported to UK in ’92 & refurbished to CSA specification
in ‘96 by Spider specialists DTR of London
•In
the same ownership since then, in 2004 the car has
had attention to a front suspension turret, and to one sill, to
address the slow but recurring appearance of the Italian Tinworm!!
•Continuously
taxed and MOT’d the Spider enjoys nothing better than a blast up a windy
A road in the company of the Opel GT, Mini Cooper, Escort RS2000,
Wolseley 16/60 and E-Type Jaguar
•In
the winter months, the Spider can be found wearing a Black Hard Top, and
is regularly run to avoid seizure of its many moving parts - and that
will remain my excuse for the time being!
