Facts

Then comes the B-24, I think that this plane should have gotten the credit it deserved. The first time that the B-24 was manufactured was in 1940. This plane was made for precision bombing. It used the Norden bomb sight to make tactical strikes on bridges, bases, and railroads. It bombed at a height of 32,000 feet and had a load of 8,800 pounds. The B-24 flew in the same combat boxes as the B-17. The plane had a crew of ten and a max speed of 300 mph. It could fly 2,850 miles. The machine guns on the B-24 were mostly 50 calibers, with ball turrets on top and bottom, two waist gunners and a tail gunner, and two nose guns. The B-24 was the main defense for convoys to Britain. Some versions of the B-24 carried missiles or other bombs under the inner wing. The weight of the plane if empty was 34,000 pounds; if full, 60,000 pounds.

Boxes

The B-24 planes used layered defenses with other B-24. The layered defenses are made up of “boxes” each with a squadron of six B-24s and moved in unison and simultaneous bombing two boxes where connected to the first and so on so on. There are three layered defenses the 3rd COMBAT BOX, LEAD COMBAT BOX, and the 2nd COMBAT BOX. The 3rd combat box was at 26000 ft. each box had 18 bombers witch was more than 200 machine guns. The lead combat box flew at 25000 the commander flew in front of the rest of the planes the lead plane was in charge of navigation and bombing. The 2nd combat box is when the planes moved in unison and staying close.

It all was needed routine maintenance It was considered a secret weapon in World War II. It has two main parts on it. the stabilizer without it wouldn't work correctly.
