Introduction:

Part ten of the series was the first Final Fantasy game released on the Playstation 2 console.  The game shifted away from the series' typical approach in many ways.  The main character isn't the leader of the party and there isn't a world map for example.  Part ten was also the first of the series to have a direct sequel, carrying on the games story.  The sequel Final Fantasy X-2 was, at best, lukewarmly received as many fans despised it, disliked the music and found it to be too feminine for example.  However, to others the game was a welcome fresh air of light hearted fun.

Story:

The game follows a Blitzball (a sport in the game, kind of like football/soccer but played underwater) player called Tidus, who lives in the high tech city of Zanarkand.  During the middle of a game his world is turned upside down when Zanarkand is attacked by a Leviathan monster known as Sin.  After coming face to face with this creature he is transported to a land known as Spira.  Whats more everyone tells him Zanarkand was destroyed a thousand years ago and that his head has gone funny from Sin's toxin.  He finds himself like a fish out of water in this strange land, everyone fears the Sin creature who regularly attacks Spiras settlements.  Nearly everyone follows a religion known as Yevon, which teaches that all technology (except those approved by the religion) are wrong and that only the summoners will rid Spira of Sin.  Summoners are people who have the ability to summon powerful creatures known as Aeons, they go on a pilgrimage with their guardians to the ruins of Zanarkand to receive the final Aeon.  However, when Sin has been defeated in the past, it has always returned within ten years successful summoners have never returned either.  Tidus meets a man known as Wakka, captain of a low ranking blitzball team, who takes Tidus under his wing.  In doing so Tidus' path crosses with that of a girl called Yuna.  The two find themselves having an instant rapport with one another and their paths run parallel with one another until Tidus agrees to become one of Yunas guardians.  As the two become closer, Tidus is faced with the likelihood of losing Yuna, meanwhile an ambitious politician has plans of his own.
