Fight of the feeble! - Numpty test results -    8 May 2007

As a little test for fun, I decided to match up Numpty against some other known 'weak' engines to see if she really is the weakest...

Game in 1 minute

At a quick fixed time control, Numpty's effective use of time (aka shallow fixed search depth!) turns her into a monster at bullet chess (relatively speaking..!). Youk struggles at this speed and is hampered without a book.

Game at 40 moves per minute repeating (40/1)

The use of an extended time control lengthens the time available and begins to really hurt Numpty which is still playing consistently at a fixed search depth of 2ply. Trex is still top, albeit jointly and Youk's performance has picked up.

The feebles face-off 40/1

Game at 40 moves in 5 minutes repeating (40/5)

With a relatively much longer game, Numpty is scuppered and despite picking up the odd point does indeed appear to be the weakest engine. Marquis seems transformed with a longer time control and Trex confirms itself to be too strong for this company.

The feebles face-off 40/5

Please use Numpty only at Game in 1 minute time controls!  Smile
