updated 5-20-03 ![]() Patricia White Watson sent this information to share and welcomes prayers for healing... "I entered the hospital on February 14 for observation that resulted in two emergency surgeries and a month's stay with a long recovery period and another surgery facing me in 2-3 months, when I'm strong enough. The problem was acute diverticulitis that ruptured, plus a blockage that necessitated the second, life-saving surgery one month ago. I've been home, bed bound, till a couple of days ago, for three weeks today. Luckily, I have had excellent care and am told to expect full recovery -- a month without food and little water, two months in bed, and a weight loss of 30 pounds, mean I have a lot to make up for in regard to nutrition and body rehabilitation. The doctors tell me that there was only a 5% chance of my having the problem in the first place (speaking of luck, eh?), but slim to nothing are my chances for a recurrence. In the meantime, my only daughter, Christie, is expecting her first baby around my birthday in mid June, so I want to be strong enough to be there for her, as she and her brother Decker certainly were for me through this difficult period." (4-7-03) Joe Sumpter went in for tests for shortness of breath and had three stents inserted on November 12/13. He says things feel a bit better as he approaches the holiday season. (12-21-02) Robert Adams recently had some stents inserted into some arteries, but is doing well at home in Tennessee. (12-21-02) Tom Smith is home recovering from a five bypass heart surgery. The surgery was done in Indianapolis and Tom is weak but resting at home in Logansport according to his wife, Ann Castaldi Smith ('59). (July 2002) Steve Foreman was released from the Cleveland Clinic after successful open heart surgery at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. He and Sue will fly home to Florida Wednesday morning. It appears all has gone well, and They are thrilled to be headed home. (7-24-01) Jim Fiedler still waiting for liver transplant in Florida. He has been waiting for eight months now and becoming discouraged. E-mail to help cheer him up might be helpful. See the '58 e-mail page for his address. (7-21-01) Sadly, Jim died after receiving the transplant. See the Memorial information at bottom of main page. Steve Foreman underwent open heart surgery on July 20. They found the aortic valve could be repaired, so replacement was unnecessary. The surgery appeared to go very well, and Steve is up walking the day after surgery. Wife Sue reports "At the 10 AM visit Steve looked terrific! They'd removed the chest drain, the sensor in the heart and the catheter. He sat up for breakfast and was ready to take a walk right after we left. The assistant surgeon told him they only needed to snip two cusps apart and the value worked perfectly." Steve plans to return from The Cleveland Clinic to his home in Winter Park, Florida, on Wednesday. (7-21-01) Jim Lowe has been at the IU Medical center for 3 weeks and they transferred him last week to the Rehab center here in Kokomo. The gout has invaded all his joints and because he is a kidney transplant patient, they have to be careful of what they give him. He lost two fingers last year from this and may lose two more soon. he can not walk, but they are working on that at rehab. He is a fighter and that is what has kept him going-----THAT AND A LOT OF PRAYERS AND MANY GREAT FRIENDS AND FAMILY. Here is Jim's address at rehab: Jim Lowe Healthsouth Rehab room 203 829 N. Dixon Road Kokomo, IN 46901 Darlene Tipton Lowe (Pug) (4-3-01) Connie Otterman Ludwig had triple bypass surgery on March 6, and came home on Saturday the 10. All went very well - her nurses tell me that she is way ahead of schedule on the healing curve. She is still in a lot of pain and is therefore unable to sleep through the night. I give her pain medication about every four hours. I know that every day that passes will see her hurting a little less and less and soon she'll be her old self. Thank you for your prayers and concern. Paul Ludwig (3-24-01) Jim Fiedler is awaiting a liver transplant as they spend the winter at their place in Florida. Through a blood transfusion, he got Hepatitis C and now cancer of the liver. A couple of years ago, he had a blood clot that settled in his spine and he was unable to walk for for four months. It is a chore to walk today, but with the use of his cane, he can get around. (3-11-01) Connie Otterman Ludwig is scheduled for open heart surgery the week of March 12 in Arizona, for narrowing of the arteries, a disease that her mother died of when she was just 63 and they think it may be hereditary. (3-9-01) Marggie Pasquale Fouts is planning to undergo some chemotherapy soon, if not already, for a small cancer that was found. The prognosis appears good since there was only a small spot found so far. (3-2-01) After the doctors got a good look at Steve Foreman's heart, they feel that it is very strong and they do not have to do any surgery at this time. So a big sigh of relief was heard from Florida when that news was received. (3-9-01) This message from Sue Foreman on Feb 11, 2001. In applying for an insurance policy Steve Foreman was told his heart was not looking good. Seems his left ventricle was enlarging and his aortic valve was not working right. This news just after he whipped the uphill treadmill test and felt mighty strong. Monday, Feb. 19th the docs plan to send a probe down his throat to get a better picture of the valve and confirm what they suspect. They are 90% sure he needs to have the aortic valve replaced. What a shock for a guy who runs 9 to 10 miles a week. Please say a prayer that the diagnosis they do is accurate and if he needs to have it replaced that all goes well. And pray that we get over feeling so scared about it. Until we determine the aortic valve's condition, we can't know about urgency to have it repaired. We'll let you know when we know. Just thank you for your prayer. Bill Drake's mother suffered a stroke the second week of September, 2000, and is now back home. Bob Hardin's mother suffered a stroke September 2, 2000 and is improving at home at this time. Jan Eisert Hiatt's mother is recuperating from colon surgery she had in July, 2000. Sharon Dunbar Nolan's mother had surgery for an abdominal aneurysm in August, 2000. This is the start of this section.......... reads UP. |
