about the joyride swingbike, i spoke with matt awhile ago and he said the company is no longer in business, it was sold a couple of years ago to someone in korea, there are not many of them in the US as most of the sales were in austrailia, and europe......i know of a bike shop that has a new yellow 26" swinger bike for sale(assembled with hang tag etc.but no box), i was thinking about getting it myself the price is right but i have quite a few bikes already.matt said he didn't think they were making them anymore ! So there you have it ! Hope that helps you out !

Have you guys recently noticed that vintage Schwinn bike prices are falling like mad (in half) lately while Swing bike prices are going steadily up. It won't be long before the Swing Bike is worth as much as the Schwinn Grey Ghost krate if the "base" coll ctor prices for Schwinns further deteriorate.

A few interesting quotes from the 1996 (I think -- maybe 1995) INPEX (inventors) convention that featured Mr. Lapides and his "new" Swing Bike: "How about the the Swingbike by Joyride Inc? The inventor says the thought came to him in a dream, "[The Swingb ke has] independent steering of the front and rear wheels. You can actually ride the bike with one tire on the curb, one on the street, you can straddle objects". Could this be the next craze to sweep the world? The Swingbike has the potential to be as po ular as the skateboard judging by the enthusiastic reception it has been given and the number of units sold in the last year. This brainchild of young Pittsburgh inventor, Matthew Lapides, adds a new fun element to bicycles by allowing the rider to pivot he frame under the saddle. This allows all manner of stunts and manoeuvres to be performed but should you wish to ride in a normal fashion the frame will automatically return to a straight line configuration. Previous attempts have been made to produce a ike of this nature but all have been beset with problems. Theres no such thing as a new version type Swing bike. Tell your freind to get the real McCoy and not some unknown copy that doesn't exist. Because of CPSC Regulations a Repop of a Swing bike cannot be manufactured for resale. Just like with "stick shift" bikes...because of strict regulations since the mid to late 70's. Do you see any stick shift Repops?? Bikes with big shifters mounted on the top tube. All the reproduction krates are cb and do not have shifters.

Just got back from Kratefest '99 and guess what! I took second place in the Most Original Bike category with my NOS yellow swinger. First place was a real nice silver mist Manta. I still can't understand how a used bike could beat out a new bike but th se were Schwinn fans. The best part of the day is when my oldest son won first place in the raffle. The prize was a 1999 Orange Krate. All in all a very sweat day.

From the Schwinn B/S/T forum (it's not mine): Swing Bike FS: Bike is nearly complete. It needs the front fender. The bike needs to be repainted. Someone put a clear coat on the bike. It has turned slightly yellow. A little lacquer thinner and the clear oat will be removed. The original color appears to be light blue. The seat needs to be replaced. I contacted 3 antique shops in Midvale Utah. Midvale Antiques 801-568-6700, 1st Class 801-568-7878 and Sandy's 801-568-9840. None of them had Swing Bikes or any related items. I have owned my swing bike about three or four years now. I have caused numerous close encounters as many drivers will watch a swing bike instead of the road. For everyone who wants one yet can't afford the money for bikes sold via the internet there i hope. Next time you go skiing in Salt Lake City take a few minutes and call the antique dealers in the Salt Lake City area expecially Midvale. Last time I went around there I found several still in the box never assembled for about $250. I advise not telling them how much they could get over the internet. A couple of them also had old advertisements featuring young Osmond himself. Good luck!

If you have a swing bike try meeting up with inline skaters that practice their skills with cans, bottles or cones. You will find that many will look in amazement others will feel that you are invading their territory, while other bikers will pass you by looking behind to take a second look. Hey, we don't mean to take skaters attention away from what they are doing, just remember swing biking has been around since the mid 7o's (When did inline skating begin?)"My point exactly".

I have a small Swing Bike page up and running for us SB fans. There are some swingers for sale (not mine). There will be more to come so let me know what you think. By the way, I paid $500 for Allison's Swing Bike. The kick is she paid $20 for it at a thrift shop. Keep your eyes open!

THANKS FOR THE INFO BOB, IT IS GOOD TO KNOW THAT THE BIKE HOLDS A TOP PRICE (EVEN AT SUCH A SHORT SELLING TIME AS IT WAS POSTED) I GET THE FEELING THAT THE PRICE WILL STILL SKYROCKET SOMEWHAT ONCE THESE NEW IN THE BOX ONES START BECOMING HARDER AND HARDER TO FIND.
