Mike's Homegrown Swing Bike

Left Side View

Hello, I saw Carl's homegrown Swing Bike awhile back, it got me inspired to build one for myself. It's based on a Canadian Cycle & Motor (CCM)Grand Sport 25 inch frame coaster braked touring bike. A Raleigh BMX frame and fork was also butchered in the swing frame construction. I like choppers so I decided to incorporate a 7/8 inch rod fork extension idea I wanted to try. The back wheel is 26 X 1 3/8 and the front is 16 X 1.75. The toptube of the frame was lengthened 4 inches. The BMX fork was trimmed and extended to the down tube stub the other fork blade was welded to the seat post of the back triangle and two short sections of tubes were also added to the joint to strengthen it. A four bolt stem is slid into the steerer and has a four holed plate bolted to the top, the plate is pierced by the seat tube and welded to it. This braces the steerer of the swing section. I'm using a chain to limit how much the frame swings. The frame also has a lockout device so "normal" bike frame is also an option. The fairing was garbage picked by a guy at work for me. The bike rides nice: rolls easy, rides smooth and feels surfy when swinging. There is also a built-in wind whistle because of the open wedge bolt hole in the welded on handle bar stem, at around ten mph. Bye for now ...
