On
the 18th February 1999 Pierce Brosnan and The World Is Not Enough film
crew arrived in Bilbao, Spain, to be greeted by thousands of eager fans
queuing up to see their idol- James Bond. As well as meeting with local
officials, Pierce visited the famous Guggenheim Museum (which features
in the film) and also made a donation to a local charity for cancer research.
Brosnan,
Carlyle, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Michael Apted and Michael G. Wilson all
gathered in the council buildings later in the afternoon to hold a press
conference. |

The
first day of filming saw a great deal of action when a spectacular sequence
featuring Pierce Brosnan's stunt double was filmed, where Bond jumps out
of a 5th floor window, with the Guggenheim Museum in the background.
There
were a great many spectators present during the filming of the event, and
some sources put the figure close to 1000. This obviously posed a problem
for the security staff, but everything seemed to be under control by the
afternoon, although the number of spectators remained constant throughout
the day. |

.
Unfortunately,
the weather was poor for much of the first few days, and on several occasions
the crew had to abandon filming because of torrential downpours.
Footage
was also filmed of a car chase, involving Bond in pursuit of Renard,
and apparently several Police vehicles were drafted in to join the chase,
which culminates somewhere in the centre of the city.
El
Mundo, a local newspaper, revealed that the chase scene starts with Bond
exchanging something with a banker, when Renard shoots shoots a shot into
the office, fortunately missing Bond, but killing someone else.
Maria
Grazia Cuccinotta will feature as the "Cigar Girl" in the sequence, a villainous
henchwoman to Renard. |
