M (Judi Dench)
Experience:

GoldenEye,
Mrs Brown,
Tomorrow Never Dies,
Shakespeare In Love,
As Time Goes By (tv).

M's real name is Barbara Mawdsley. She is an efficient and powerful woman, but her tendency to have love affairs with men not officially connected to MI6 could be her weakness. There is definitely mutual trust and respect between her and Bond but there is little emphasis on their understanding, which makes their relationship all the more intriguing.
M is reputed to have a larger role in TWINE than before and gets to give Bond a good telling off. There are even rumours that she heads off to brief Bond on location, instead of being confined to the MI6 office for the whole film. Latest news is that M gets some of the action abroad: When pressed for details, Judi Dench admitted she couldn’t reveal anything about the always-secret project, but laughingly allowed, “It’s more physical than the last times. I’m in hot water in a very sticky situation. And it’s huge fun." She also says her role has been expanded. In the first (Bond), I worked three days, then five days (on “Tomorrow Never Dies”) — now 12! Make of it what you will, but it surely sounds like a classic scene is in the making!
As I write, news has just come in that Judi has won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar® for her work in Shakespeare In Love. We'd like to offer Judi our warmest congratulations!
