Both
are 007 veterans; Michael G. Wilson, stepson of the late, great Albert
R. "Cubby" Broccoli, has produced or co-produced every Bond Film since
A
View To A Kill (1985), and also co-wrote several 007 adventures, including
the wonderful The Living Daylights. Barbara Broccoli began by helping
to produce some of the Bonds in the late 80's, and officially gained the
title of producer in GoldenEye. It has been claimed that some of
the core elements of the original Bond Films have been lost in favour of
high-octane action, particularly because neither Michael G. Wilson nor
Barbara Broccoli have the studio clout that Cubby Broccoli had. However,
I don't think this has ever been the case, and will certainly not be true
for TWINE, they seemed to have gotten what they want this time round. It
is interesting to note that a major Hollywood entertainment magazine recently
voted them as the 11th most powerful and influential figures in the film
industry.
A New Bond? Don’t worry, Pierce Brosnan is definitely playing 007, but his character may not be the same Bond we’ve seen for the last few films, according to a story in the London Sunday Times. Fearing that the series would just recycle the same stories over and over again, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have chosen to give Bond a makeover. In particular, they found the Bond presented in Tomorrow Never Dies to be problematic. "We thought some of the core Fleming elements in the story had been lost," says scriptwriter Neal Purvis. "Rather than blasting at people with a machine gun as 007 did in Tomorrow Never Dies, it was felt he should make the difference by picking up his Walther PPK and firing one shot. We also decided to delve deeper into Bond's character and to make the new film a little bit Hitchcockian. After all, the screen Bond of the 1960s owed a lot to Hitchcock pictures like Foreign Correspondent and North by Northwest." An insider also revealed to the paper, "The movie will show a Bond with an Achilles heel… a Bond with a very real chink in his armour." (Thanks to ‘Commander Tyderian’ for the lead.) |
