Sarah Donahue has a smashing time with the SunSeeker!
On Monday 12th April, Vic Armstrong and his team of stuntmen and women engineered a breathtaking sequence on the River Thames, just downstream from Waterloo Bridge. Vic, pictured right, spent the day overseeing construction of a false pier. The pier, far right, was constructed from light wood and polystyrene, and was designed to disintegrate upon impact with the SunSeeker, driven by Cigar Girl Stunt Double, Sarah Donohue.
Sarah, driving the SunSeeker at a high speed, and being chased by Bond (Wade Eastwood) in the smaller Q Boat, aimed the high powered craft right at the breakaway Pier, and smashed straight into it, sending bits of wood, glass and other debris flying.

David Williams, who caught footage of the event on his SVHS Camcorder, said the sound of the glass smashing was quite loud, and was set off by small charges the SFX crew had placed beneath the windows, which were detonated at exactly the same moment that the Cigar Girl's boat smashed into the Pier.

In the next few photographs, the devastation caused by the event becomes apparent.
Sarah spoke to me the next day and said it was a lot of fun smashing the boat into the pier. One source told me that she was going a little too fast, and damaged one of the propellors of the SunSeeker in the impact. The crew later had to fit a spare set of props to the boat before filming could continue.
