BATTLE OF THE BANDS
What's it like to beat out 1,586 bands in a Battle of the Bands competition? We just found out.
We entered a national show case for bands from across the country in Grand Junction, CO on November 13-15, 2000. To enter the competition, we had to send in promo and a CD. Only 150 bands were chosen (from 1,587) to perform in the Battle of the Bands. After live performances from the bands on Monday and Tuesday, the judges narrowed the field down to 20. On Wednesday afternoon, the top 20 bands played with the judges making their final decision at 6:30. Boom Candle... 1st Place!
We left Colorado with $10,000 for 1st place, and that night we received word that there were record labels calling from LA to find out who won. They flew music industry people in from New York, Indiana, Washington DC, and LA to judge this event. COOOOL!!!

BUC'S DEN
If you've been to a Boom Candle Concert recently you've likely heard the new pirate song. The name of the song is Buc's Den. Like the song Britainnia, it is inspired by the video game Ultima Online which is what I like to do on my fun time. We are playing the Ultima Online World faire in Austin TX which is a real honor. I thought we needed a new Ultima song to back up Britainnia, thus Buc's Den was born
In the game, Buccaneers Den is the one Island in the world of Britainnia that is free from Lord British's governing. Chaos rules there! It is a hive of players who hunt other players and thieves. Not a friendly place. I wanted the song to have a dangerous feel and a good story to go with it that would do this treacherous island justice. From the response that we've seen at the shows it was a success. If you haven't heard it yet, we have three shows this weekend so come check it out. Haaargh Matey!!! Thanks, ZPhenom

BOOM CANDLE MERCHANDISE
Well, many of you have been asking the band as of late about merchandise. We have been looking into a lot of options in hopes to offer you a good product and a wide selection at a fair price. Not an easy task to say the least. We may have found it thanks to our friends in Austin TX at Ultima Online. Boom Candle merchandise from T-shirts to Baby doll shirts, sweatshirts, mugs and even Mousepads will soon be available to Boom Candle fans. You will be able to get them online in the size you specify. We will also likely stock more common sizes at our shows. Keep an eye out for this as Im working out a deal as we speak. Thanks again for your support everyone. It was a great turnout at Stan and Ollies this weekend.
Thanks alot, Joel "ZPhenom" Zwicky

SILENT ILLUSION???
So why the name change?? As of New Years of 2000, the band ceased to be Silent Illusion and became the Boom Candle. The name Silent Illusion was around long before Brad Larson or Joel Zwicky ever joined the band. They were a heavy metal band then with a sound similar to "Manowar". That is a far cry from the direction the band has currently taken. A change was needed to bury the old and begin anew. With the rising popularity of the bands 1999 hit BOOM MAMA. Boom Candle just seemed like the best choice. The show for the new Millenium will be explosive and the band is intent on makin some noise. The new name fit like a glove.......
GET READY FOR THE BOOM!!!!!!
"Update-January 2000"
Update on Brad Larson!!!!
Bad News Boom Fans. The love man who in December broke his wrist on the ice will now be out for 3 months due to the severity of the injury. The show goes on however Jason Jelinek, former guitar player in Zphenomenon's first band. Visual Noise will be seeing the band through until Brad is on his feet. Way to be there Jay!!! So give it up for him when you see him.
