        The Quiz Answers

          Floating SnowEach quiz questions is followed by the title of the carol, along with an explanation in case you don't understand the puzzle. Don't be insulted if you did get the answers. Consider it a hint for someone else.

          Answer: I Caught Mommy Kissing Santa Claus: A smack is a kiss, and Daddy was playing Santa. He was therefore in disguise.

        2. 288 hours of old-fashioned celebration.

          Answer: The Twelve Days of Christmas: Twelve days have 288 hours, and in the olden days, even before Christian times that is how long the celebrations lasted.

        3. Cup-shaped instruments manufactured from a white precious metal.

          Answer: Silver Bells: Jingle bells, on the other hand are round and not shaped like church bells.

        4. I can see that secretive old man in disguise arriving among us soon.Rudolph, the Rednosed Reindeer

          Answer: Here Comes Santa Claus: Well, he is secretive, because he does not announce his coming, and most of us miss out on seeing him arrive.

        5. This four-footed runner is named after an Austrian prince, and he has been hitting the bottle again.

          Answer: Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer: Rudolph is a common German name, and Austrians speak German. Did you know that Rudolph and the other of Santa's reindeer are all girls? Male reindeer do not have antlers in the winter.

        6. A Christmas song performed by hollow vessels which make music when when struck.Floating Snow

          Answer: Carol of the Bells: Hark how the bells, sweet silver bells, all seem to say, throw cares away.

        7. High-pitched tinny round metal noise makers, all strung up on a strip of leather.

          Answer: Jingle Bells: This is the one you have been waiting for, right?

        8. Let the frozen precipitation commence! Let the frozen precipitation commence! Let the frozen precipitation commence!

          Answer: Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!: You wouldn't want rain at Christmas, would you? Unless, of course, you live in the southern hemisphere, in which case you wouldn't want snow.

        9. Little tingling metal spheres, little tingling metal spheres, boulder of little tingling metal spheres.Santa Stuck in the Chimney

          Answer: Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle bell rock: Once would have been enough.

        10. Right on top of the roof.

          Answer: Up on the Housetop: Some versions of the song call it "Up on the rooftop," and I don't know which one is correct.

        11. Dad's mom was killed in a vehicular accident.

          Answer: Grandma got run over by a reindeer.: That's terrible.

        12. The only present I want is to be able to talk without lisping.

          Answer: All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.: I once heard this song performed by a boy who had actually lost his front teeth, and he was lisping.

        13. We hope that you will have a good time this yuletide season and a good start for next year.

          Answer: We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.: And so do I.

        14. In my sleep and even while awake, I have thoughts of frozen precipitation covering the earth before the end of the year.

          Answer: I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas: You can daydream, right.
