Maxine NABORS Huckins Lebanon, OR	NABORS I am searching for Lewis S. Nabors born in Laurens Co SC in 1813 I am looking for any information on who his siblings were also who his parents were. In the 1821 Census it shows that Robert had one son under 10, Nathan had four under 10 and John had four under 10. One of these must be Lewis's family If any one can give me any clues. It sure would be appreciated. I have not one clue as to who Lewis Parents are I am not sure if the whole family moved to MS or if Lewis was old enough to have gone on his own. Heath (or Geath?), Esq. Louisa was born 15 Oct 182? (last digit on edge of page). James E. "Jim" Lynch, 2 Apr 1818 - 2 Oct 1890, married on 28 Dec 1841, by Rev. E. Ray, Margariet Anderson, 25 Sept 1816 - 3 May 1880. Lynn has been informed that James & Margariet are buried in Bethany Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Laurens Co., SC. Their children: 1. Nancy Permilia Ann Lynch, 11 Jul 1846, living in Reidville Twp, Spartanburg in 1900, married Henry T. Sexton. 2. We believe Mary Emeline Anderson married John Fielder near Nazareth Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg County. Does anyone know is this Sarah Anderson is related to Margarite Anderson Lynch.?? Wood (b.1805) married Sarah Jane Collins (b. Jan. 30, 1812) both in Laurens, SC married about 1829 in Laurens. They moved to Louisville, Winston Co., MS, where they are on the 1850 census. They had 16 children. Thomas L. Wood was the son of Jackie L. Wood, who was the son of Edmund Learwood. The variations on that name are Learwood, Larwood, L. Wood and Wood, then Woods. Thomas' mother was Agnes Shockley, daughter of Salathiel Shockley, Sr. All these folks lived in Laurens. I have not found who Sarah Jane Collins parents were, so she is my "brick wall" in that line....I would like to connect up with anyone who has any information on these folks. Jay Thomas Anderson , SC	KNIGHT / SAXON / CARVER / MEDLOCK Looking for any information on Matthew KNIGHT from Abbeville or Laurens Co, SC. He married Nancy Jane Saxon. They had at least 3 girls, one of whom was Sallie (she married a Carver), and at least one boy whose name was James Berry KNIGHT b. October 27, 1867 d. January 04, 1958. James married Emma Lou Medlock August 1910 in Laurens Co, SC. Matthew Knight was a member of McGowan's , 14th Regiment, Company C, South Carolina Volunteer Infantry, Laurens County, "Raiborn Company". He was 24 and wounded at Deep Bottom July 28, 1864. I hear Matthew, Nancy, and at least one of their daughters died from typhoid fever. James also had typhoid and when he recovered the others had already been buried. Martha Boggs Abilene, TX	Daniel Am looking for ancestors of John M. Daniel, b. SC 1800. I believe him to be related to any or all of the following who lived in Laurens Co.: Harrison Daniel, John Daniel, and William Daniel. All appear in the 1800 census index. Harrison also appears in the 1820 index. My ancestor, John M. Daniel, named his first son Nicholas Harrison and this leads me to believe he might be related to the Harrison Daniel in the index. Brownie MacKie Pueblo West, CO	PITTS/BONHAM/ROSS/MCKISICK I have a copy of a letter written from Laurens Dist. in Feb. about 1850 (hard to read)to my gg grandfather, John Wilson McKisick (McKissick). It is from a cousin Rebecca Pitts (her married name) and talks of John's mother (no name mentioned)and Ross (a first name)with whom she is living...family reduced to three "your mother, Ross, and myself." Rebecca's husband, Andrew Pitts died soon after their marriage. She says that Ross is living with the man who raised him, Washington William's son and lives at what was called the "big mill." She talks of "Aunt Peggy, Aunt Betsey, Sally and Uncle John" as being deceased. She also talks of Uncle Samuel (who is most likely Samuel Cox Bonham)...says "he is so wealthy I don't think he wishes to correspond with any of his poor kin." He went to see her in 1845 (I also have a letter from him to JW where he talks of visiting with JW's mother). She signs the letter "your affectionate cousin, Rebecca Pitts." I would be most happy! to hear from any descendants of these people. I am trying to tie up some loose ends. Thank you. Jean Sadler Sacramento, CA	sadler I have been tracing my family history for 30+ years. I am stuck in Laurens County. I have an old LDS records, found in the archives of Salt Lake by a paid researcher, of my GG+Grandfather, Thomas Sadler. His wife's name was Mary. He was "of St. Eustatius Is, The West Indies, and probably born in England about 1716. He lived in Halifax, VA before his family's move to Lauren's County. The info. says he died ca. 1812 in Laurens Dist. SC. His wife, Mary, died about 1818 in Laurens Dist, SC. He was the father of at least 7 children. One was my direct descendant, John Sadler, b. on St. Eustatius ca. 1745. John was a Rev. War Soldier and his death was 1 Dec. 1819. He too is supposed to be buried in Laurens County. They records say that his wife was Mary Ball, b. ca 1758. I have sent many queries, but have had no response. I was trying to explore some new sites, and found yours. Bob Hemphill	HIMPHILL I need help on the Dr. John who shows up on the Laurens records as a witness 9 Jul 1801, he bought lot #18 on the Laurens Square 22 Oct 1801 to 3 Feb 1802, this was witnessed by Robert Hemphill, he bought 36 acres on a small branch of Little River 15 Jun 1802 to 28 Dec 1805, and as a witness 3 Oct 1804. Some of this may have been done by his attorney, Do you know of anyone researching this man who could tell me about him, where he came from and where he went? The Dr. John Hemphill that I am trying to match him up with had children in 1797, 1800, 1801 and other dates that I do not know. Any help on this will be appreciated. January 23, 2000

We can't locate him before 1850, when he was in Georgia with Elizabeth (178?-??) who we believe might have been his mother. By 1860 he was married to Mary Jane Connell and living in Coweta County, GA. Elizabeth still lived with them, also Thomas Connell (1782-1861), Mary Jane's father. I do not know who his parents were, but the only Powell listed in the 1800 census of Laurens County that has a male member that fits the age of John would be James Powell. John Powell married Naomi Carter ca 1814 at a location unknown. They were living in Giles County, Tennessee at the time of the 1820 census and then moved to Bedford County, Tennessee where the lived the rest of their lives. He died in the late 1850s and she died in the 1880s. Naomi Carter was evidently a daughter of John Carter and Zibiah ___?___, and a granddaughter of George Carter and Naomi Turk all of whom lived in Laurens County. Any help will be greatly appreciated. He married MARGARET HENDRICK(S), born 1793 in Laurens District, about 1811. They lived along the Reedy River near Waterloo. Who were CHESLEY'S parents? I think that MARGARET'S parents were WILLIAM WINN HENDRICK(S) and MARY ANN BURGESS. However, the will of MARGARET HENDRICK(S)leaves this in doubt. Is the MARY ANN BURGESS listed as her daughter WILLIAM'S wife or his sister? The will of JOEL BURGESS also clouds the issue because it indicates that TABITHA HENDRICK might be WILLIAM'S wife but the will can be read that she is WILLIAM'S daughter. Which is correct? I am trying to find out if JAMES ANDERSON (the Father-married to Margaret)ever did any Patriotic Service during the Revolutionary War. Can anyone help me with this? Trying to locate information on who is believed to be his 2nd wife, MARY POPE. J. Daniel had children by his 1st wife, believed to have been Malisa Unkown b:about 1815, children mentioned in J.Daniel's Will by first wife are John Evan Goddard, William E. Goddard, Polly Goddard, Thomas M. Goddard, George Goddard, Lucinda Goddard. J.Daniel left funds in guardianship for 2 younger children who were approximately 8 & 10 when he died. The guardian for the 2 younger children, Daniel Adolphus Goddard & Henry Young Goddard, was John Evan Goddard. Records in Laurens County Court house give a reporting annually for these funds. On Henry Young Goddard's death certificate his parents were listed as J. Daniel Goddard and Mary POPE. Mary Pope seems to have been J. Daniel's second wife. A third wife is mentioned in the Will by the name of Elizabeth. If anyone can has any information on Mary Pope or her family I would appreciate hearing from you. Karen E. Griffin Kingston, NY	SIMS / GRIFFIN / McGEE / MILAM I've seen two websites with the info that John Sims (d. 1805 Laurens) m. Ann ("Nannie") Griffin, but neither has a source. I have a copy of a letter written in the 1930's which states that William and Rachel Griffin's dau. Nancy m. a Sims and had 12 children, and that one of Nancy's daus. m. a McGee and one m. a Milam. This seems to fit the John Sims/Ann Griffin theory, but it definitely changes what some people have as William Griffin's birth date and marriage date to Rachel, since John and Ann Sims supposedly had a dau. who was b. 1763. Edward apparently died abt. 1804 (estate sale record of 3/10/1804 listed apparently his widow Elizabeth and children Betsey, Edward, Sarah, John AND Gabriel Jones as purchasers. Elizabeth apparently died in 1809 as her will, proven on 5/28/1809, listed sons Gabriel and Josiah along with daughters Frances Ward, Marey Burnside and Nancy Burnside. It went on to name other children Edward, John Thomas, Elizabeth, Sarah, Margret and Lucy Jones. I'm curious if this Gabriel might have been the Gabriel Jones who migrated to Wilkinson County, GA before the 1830 census and married Nancy Underwood in 1829. Any help greatly appreciated. John Robertson Anna, IL	MAHAN I learned that there was a Will of Agnes/s Mahan in the Laurens S C. It was in a book by Colleen Elliott it covered the time frame 1784-1840. Helen Rountree	ROUNTREE / District of LAWERENCE In researching my "Rountree" family I ran across a will in Madison Co. Ala of William Rountree. In this will he states he married a Sally Hopt in the District of Lawerence around 1813 . I have yet to find any listing of this. I was told at Clayton Library in Houston Tx. that this is the same county as Laurens. My question is why have I not found any referrence to this . Is Laurens Co. one and the same? Chris	HISTORY QUESTIONS I've read the Laurens Co. history and it brought up a couple of questions: 1. Is there a migration pattern where Laurens County would have fit in for the 1750 to early 1800 era? 2. Were most/many inhabitants of Laurens in that time frame direct immigrants to Charleston/other ports then began to move westward? 3. If they migrated westward in the 1806/1807 time frame, they would have been in line for Georgia's early land lotteries (1805-coastal area; 1806-1807 the middle georgia areas; 1820-west and south georgia). William's father Robert probably was living with them also. William moved to Laurens County from Halifax County VA sometime after the Revolutionary War in which he fought. Do you have any records on the above surnames that I can gain access to? I'm particularly interested in finding out if William and Susannah were married in Laurens County. There was a migration of families from Laurens to Franklin County, IN at about this time. Perhaps it was part of the Quaker migration of that period. The leaders of the migration were Robert Hanna and Robert Templeton. I'm also trying to find out how Robert Hanna might be related to Susannah. Thank you for any help. Patricia Jones	BURGESS I am searching for Thomas James Burgess, b. ca. 1818 in SC. died in DeKalb Co., AL, 1893. He is listed in 1840 Census of DeKalb Co., AL , from SC. Have had trouble locating him in 1830 Census. In 1850 he had a son Thomas J. (poss. Jesse) that was 24 so he would have had a son on 1830 probably under 5. There were some Burgess in Greenville Co, SC and also Spartenburg, SC. I was wondering if you had either of these names in your genealogy. He married a woman named Elvina b. 1811 SC. He and Elvina moved to Marion Co. GA in the late 1830s. He was a farmer. As far as I know, Elvina did not have any children with James. They did have a William Kidd and Rebecca Kidd and a John Morrow living with them as recorded on the 1850 census of Marion Co. GA. William was 17, Rebecca Kidd was 5, and John Morrow was 20 years old. All were born in SC. Elvina died in the early 1860s. James married Mahala Richardson b. 1833 GA. Her parents were John and Eliz. Catherine Richardson of SC. The Richardsons had moved to Marion Co. at the same time that James Clark arrived in Marion Co. GA. Mahala and James had 3 children: James who died at 21 of fever..no issue. Susan who married late in life and never had children, and Ely who married Ella Mae Griner of Mitchell Co. GA. They had two children: James Elias and Nora Alzeta (my grandmother). Ely moved to Mitchell Co. in the early 1890s. He took along his sister, Susie, and his mother Mahala. His father, James, died c. 1878 in Marion Co. GA. R V Strickland Pensacola, FL	Strickland My gggggrandfather Julius Strickland shows up on 1790 census in SC. It is believed that he was in Laurens County. He had one son that I know of my ggggrandfather Julius Jasper Strickland. Julius Jasper showed up on the 1850 Rutherford County census. Charles Walker Hampton, GA	SHAW / WALKER / POOLE My great-grandparents were James Monroe Walker and Ursula Caroline Shaw, both from Laurens County, SC. They moved to Henry County, GA in the early 1850`s. James Monroe is the son of John, who is the son of Elijah Walker of Laurens County. Caroline is the daughter of Pleasant Shaw and Mary Poole, also of Laurens County. Caroline died in 1893 but we do not know where she was living at that time. Elijah Walker married Elizabeth Simmons 1786 in Henry County Virginia. We do not know who his father was. There are some indications that Pleasant Shaw came from Northern Ireland, but this is undocumented. Would very much appreciate any information anyone can give me concerning any of these ancestors. Charles Simmons, prob b by 1750 d 1792, Laurens Dist, SC, m Elizabeth (?) some recs we/ve noted indicates maiden name was Tweedy -- we have no proof, and will not list a maiden name for her at this time. Elizabeth was b by 1755 d 7 Oct 1833, Laurens Dist, SC. Known issue: John, Mary, Sarah, Charles H., William, Elizabeth and Jane or Jean. It is evident Capt. Charles came to Laurens Dist by ca 1770 and we found several land recs for him in Old 96 Dist recs. It would also apear his family lived in VA prior to SC (the oldest son, John, reportedly born in VA), but we can find no recs to determine wher or when Capt. Charles was born. It is reported Capt Charles is listed as a "Patroit" for services rendered and supplies provided during the Rev War, but we have found no actual recs listing this service as yet."!
