HANNAH
Hi - My name is James Hanna and I have evidence that I am related to some Hannahs that lived in Laurens Co. I am in the process of verifying this info. My suspected ancestors are: Joseph Hannah, owner of the farm Hannah's Cowpens where the battle was fought. He was born in Ulster, Ireland about 1720 and died in Laurens Co. Supposedly buried in a Hannah family lot in what was called Dunlapsville, SC. I don't know when he died or what his wife's name was. He had a son, Robert, who was born 17 Feb 1741 or 2. He fought in the Rev. War. He married Mary Boyd about1768. He died about 1803 and is probably buried in the same family lot. He had a son, Robert Hannah, Jr. I think, born around 1771.
I am searching for information on this family. In particular, I am
interested in land or plat maps that might show where their graves might
be. I can't seem to find anything about Dunlapsville, which apparently
doesn't exist any more. Any help you can give me will be GREATLY
appreciated. I live in Athens, GA so I'm not too far to come up there.

Whitten, Jacks, Lindsey, Kennedy
Who were parents of John and Phebe Whitten, buried at Phillips Cemetery? Have been told that Lindsey Whitten's second wife was a Jacks, and that Isaac Jacks was the uncle of Lindsey's son, Alfred Whitten. Need proof of this. Just saw on Muster Roll of Co. C, 1st Regt., Ga. Reserves, that Wright Garrett enlisted as a private 0n 27 Apr 1864 at Atlanta, Ga. He was 47 yrs. old, 5'10", fair complexion, grey eyes, auburn hair. Mechanic, from Laurens Dist., S.C. On roll dated 10/3l it was noted that he was absent on furlough from Med. Board in Macon, Ga. I thought somebody out there may be looking for this. WESSON
I am looking for the father of Isaac N. Wesson, b. SC in 1841-1844. His mother was Mary. He had two sisters, Mary Ann Rebecca, b. abt 1839, and Nancy Elizabeth, b. 19 Jan 1847. By 1850, mother Mary is widowed and living in Brooks Cty GA by the Duncans, and in 1860 Isaac is listed as a hireling of the Duncans. Duncans married Wessons in Laurens Cty, so I know there are family connections there. Other Wessons- Parradon and Asbury- moved to Madison Cty FL which is just across the line from Brooks Cty. All of these people list their birthplace as SC. Does anyone have any idea who these people hook up to?? In Isaac's branch, the name Roland appears several times. On Ancestry.com there is a Rolla Wesson listed with no further descendants. Does anyone have maybe some musings or unaccounted for people?

SHARP / ROSS
Looking for the land that Isaac SHARP occupied along Rabon Creek in Lauren's county. Land document from Deed Book, J, pg 214: 2-28-1807 - 4-16-1811. Isaac x Sharp to Drury Boyce for $250 acs on se side of S Fork of Raburns Creek bounded on Jams Downen,Patr.Riley, Thoas McDonald, Rbert Sims, when surveyed originally granted to P Riley, 1785 by Moultrie. Wi: Andrew McKnight, Bailey Mahon, Jonathan Downs,JQ,dower relinq. by Betty SHARP. Deed apparently made before Isaac died, but filed later(1811). I would like to know if Isaac & Elizabeth ROSS SHARP were Cherokee? Was Henry SHARP'S wife Mary Cherokee? I would like to have a plat map of the exact location of Isaac SHARP'S land. How did Isaac SHARP come to occupy this land? He had a brother Edward SHARP in the area also, and a sister Eleanor who married a Mr. SHIRLEY of the area. Isaac SHARP died April 1,1809...does anyone have access to this area of Rabon Creek, and is there a grave marker for Isaac SHARP? If there is a grave marker, I would like to have a picture of it. I know that after Isaac died his brother & sister stayed in the SC area. But Isaac SHARP'S children moved on. I have never been able to find Elizabeth ROSS SHARP. Isaac and Elizabeth SHARP'S son, John A. SHARP was in the Anderson Co. TN area in 1830. He was in Choctaw Co., MS & Yallabusha Co. MS in the 1840's, then Independence CO., AR in the 1850's. Was he or his children in Georgia at anytime? That's all I can think of for now. Thanks for any
clues to the SHARP & ROSS families of LAUREN'S CO. SC.

I have 2 death certificates mentioning D.E. Tribble, in Clinton, I think. Is this a funeral home or cemetery? Can these people be contacted for information or is there info I am not aware of? I have been stuck for years on my G Grandfather who died August 12, 1920 in Clinton. He was born Jan 13, 1884 in Raleigh. I looked for an obit in the Greenville Library, but the only newspaper available for that time period was the Greenville News, in which I found nothing. I find no trace of his father in S.C., so he must have lived in Raleigh. I found no census record in S.C. or N.C. and no death certificate in S.C.for his father, so he must have died in N.C. I do not know if he had any siblings. If there were a Laurens or Clinton newspaper record available, an obit might help. Is there something available for archived newspapers, maybe if there is a newspaper office available for search? I have searched the on-line death notices and cemetery listings, but have never found anything. I'm just looking for suggestions or for someone to point the way. Thank you for your time. McNABB / FOSTER
I have a letter written by Johnnie Foster McNabb to my mother's cousin, Gold Brawley in 1945. McNabb tells of his father's death and burial. The letter was written in Birmingham, AL. McNabb may have been a doctor as he says his father became ill at work (in his office)and drove himself home. Johnnie gave his a "hypo" (an indication he was a doctor) and called a heart specialist. The father died a few days later and was "carried back to Nettleton for burial as that was his wish." I believe Nettleton was in MS but it may refer to a plantation in the family. He speaks of Murial and Aunt Mary Lou, also cousin Lula who I believe was Lula Williams Barlow. I believe Johnnie was a Foster descendant and am trying to connect him to my ggrandparents, Joel T. and Lucinda Holland Foster. They raised a rather large family in Clinton, one of their daughters being my ggrandmother Mary Ann Clementine Foster Williams. Anyone with any knowledge or connection with these names out there? O'DELL METH CHURCH CEMETERY WHITMIRE
Anyone going to this cemetery- please be advised that in order to get to this cemetery, you have to cross someone's property to get to it. The cemetery is very isolated and overgrown. The person's property that you need to cross owns a large PitBull dog that is not always chained up or restrained, and this dog does NOT like strangers (no, we weren't bit, fortunately.) If you are going there, pull up in the driveway, don't get out of your vehicle, honk and wait for someone to come out to the house and ask about the dog. If no one is home, it is very likely that the dog is loose. 320 S. Beltline Blvd #37-C Columbia SC 29205 October 6 , 2003 |

WALLACE
I am trying to find the decendency of my great-grandfather George Willie Wallace. He was born in Gray Court, married Pauline Adams (also of Gray Court) in 1874 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney. I think he must have lived in Gaffney for some time because that is where my grandfather is grew up. George and Pauline had three sons: George, James Howard (my grandfather), and Furman. I have found the decendency of Pauline Admas on the Internet but can find nothing on George W(illie)'s parents, although I think they were from Laurens County as well. Any information would be great. Manly / Manley
Hi everyone, We are looking for males of the Manley/Manly family lines, who are interested in participating in creating a Manley/Manly DNA family tree. The "Y" chromosome markers not only provide information on common ancestors, but how many generations back that ancestor was. This project will help to scientifically establish any common ancestors amongst the US lines and any possible ties to the family lines in abroad As of Nov 2003 we have 12 members. They represent the Manley/Manly line that were in Laurens SC late 1700's. John [Sr], John [Jr] William, James and others. In order to have a more accurate picture of these family lines it would be ideal to have more participation in the project. If you are interested in learning more about this project, including the testing process, fees and security measures or if you would like to begin a surname project of your own, please visit our site @ http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~chatsol/ Project administrators, Cathy Manly Sockol ~ US Alan Manley ~ UK 8200 W Prospect, Ponca City OK 74601 November 27, 2003 |
