Frances married Philip DAY around 1760, place unknown. I suspect this marriage occurred in Laurens or Pickens Co., SC. Steve Austin Savannah, TN	AUSTIN / GURLEY My ancestor is John C AUSTIN. He married Mary Ann GURLEY in Coweta County, GA on January 13, 1829. He was born around 1810 in SC. He is found in the 1840 and 1850 census's (sp?) in Paulding county GA. I have been trying to find information on his father for 2 years now without success. Family history suggests that his name was John also. It seems that a lad of 19 or younger would have had his father around close by but that is just a guess. Would really appreciate any information you might come across about this man and his forebears. I recently got e-mail from someone who remembers that probate records of Laurens county SC contained references to some AUSTIN children whose father had died. Could this be the man I am looking for? Johnna Anderson Mesa, AZ	KENNEDY / MC GOWAN I am the great-grandaughter of Charles Dean Kenneday, who was born in the vicinity of Laurens in 1860. He was the seventh child of Nathaniel (?) Kennedy. Along with an older brother, he moved to East Texas in the 1880's. The older brother found living conditions too harsh and returned home. C.D. Kennedy married three times, and three times was left a widower. One of his wives was Maggie McGowan, and I belive she and her family were also residents of the Laurens area. I have several family photos, Frances Kennedy and Hugh Kennedy among them, which are inscribed with the photographer's studio imprint from Laurens and Easley. Julia Gray Stepp	GREY I am Julia Gray Stepp my GGgrandfather Milford Gray was born on April 03, 1816, my father Melvin Gray was told by his Aunt Hattie Gray Boyd that Milford Gray came across the Toccoa area before 1840 (he married Sarah A. Pettyjohn of Hall Co., GA). And Hattie also told my father that Milford Gray was born in Laurens Co., SC. I do know that there were Gray's in Laurens but I am having a hard time finding Milfords father - I have ideas that Isaac Gray is related maybe a grandfather, and maybe Abraham Gray is his father, in Isaac Gray's Will there is a name that might be miss read (Madison Gray, listed as a grand son). I am unable to get to S.C. to look at any documents, I would really appreciate if some one would check out Isaac Gray's Will to see if Milford is listed. Milford named is first son Perry Pulusky Gray which there was a Pulusky Gray listed in Isaac Gray's Will and Milford named a daughter Mary Albertina and there is a name either Albetina or Albertina or Albelina on Isaac Gray's Will and Milford name another son Thomas Parks Gray which it is thought that Abraham Gray married Mary Park(s). I have also studied the John Gray line that mar. Ayslie Hyatt or Hiat but I do not think that Milford comes from this line. I do not know of any brothers or sisters for Milford either. Jim Meyer Bellevue, WA	BURNSIDE I am seeking information on the Burnside family. 1779 Census of 96 Dist. shows a James Burnside. 1790 shows two large James Burnside families. In 1798, a James Burnside's will was probated in Laurens Co. He was a Loyalist. His children were Edghill, James, Thomas and three daughters (James and Edghill later removed to Indiana). Father said to be Robert Burnside. A second James Burnside died 1801/1803 leaving a will. Also, there is a Burnside Cemetery in Laurens Co where a James Burnside Sr., b. Aug 1723, d. 179_ is buried with an American Revoltionary soldier: Captain Andrew Burnside, b. 1763, d. 1844. Jim Meyer Bellevue, WA	DIAL I have a copy of the Dial book written by Hastings Harrison, but I am looking for any additional information about the Dial family. I am descended from a son of Henry Arthur Dial and Isabella Hastings: Isaac, who appears only very briefly in the Harrison book. Harrison lost track of him, but I have discovered that he died in 1813 in Hopkins Co., Kentucky, where also three of his sons married: Isaac Malcolm, Martin, and Hastings Dial. All three also served in the War of 1812. So I am most interested in additional information about Henry Arthur Dial and Isabella Hastings and their ancestors. mdillard Tupelo, MS	DILLARD I am searching Spartanburg and Laurens Counties for DILLARD information. My GG grandfather was Curlin Dillard who is shown in the 1840 cenus in Spartanburg Co. as Kerling on p. D463. Serveral of his family members are shown in this location and in Laurens county near Philson's crossing where there is a DILLARD cemetary. The earliest DILLARD I can find in either place is Nicholas in 1799. Curlin married Nancy Thompson and migrated to Miss. via Ala. in the 1840's. I believe Curlin's father was James whose brothers and sisters were Colder, Josephus, and Nancy. Other DILLARDS shown in these locations are William, Samuel, Harless, Captain James, Josiah, Sally, Harcanus,and Sarah. I believe the DILLARDS came to SC from VA. Glenna Kinard Atlanta, GA	HIGGINS / MARTIN I am tracing the Higgins (as well as Martin) families of Laurens County. I don't have much of a starting place, but maybe these folks will ring a bell. I am looking for descendants of Wash and/or Harper Higgins. I think their grandmother was Caroline ("Carrie") S. Higgins Higgins Martin. She was originally from Richland County (dau. of John OCain Higgins, my gg grandfather) and first married A. H. Higgins. Then she married a Martin (possibly George Washington Martin). Her son who might be Wash and Harper's father could have been a John S. Higgins. Wash Higgins died in 30's so I am hoping he still has descendants around the area. In addition to trying to track down the Higgins clan, I am trying to tie in the Richland County Higginses w/the Laurens group, particularly since Carrie seems to have married into that branch.
