February 3,1998 -- Fourplay, Warner Bros.' contemporary jazz group that launched it's career with a chart topping, solid gold debut in 1991 followed by three best-selling albums (including a "Greatest Hits"), is back in the studio to work on their fourth record of original material for Warners. Group founders Bob James (keyboards), Nathan East (bass), and Harvey Mason (drums), are joined this time by guitarist Larry Carlton, who is stepping in for the group's founding guitarist Lee Ritenour. Ritenour, who recently launched his own record label, had conflicting commitments which resulted in his withdrawal from Fourplay at this time.

Larry Carlton, known as a "musician's musician" and a "guitarist's guitarist", is celebrating his 30th anniversary as a recording artist this year. In 1968, Carlton recorded "With a Little Help From My Friends" (Uni), an album that launched him on a varied and steller career that includes more than 100 gold albums, two Grammy Awards, an Emmy nomination, and countless tours and recordings
