Meirion - 02/17/00 22:09:39 My Email:m.underhill@virgin.net Location: Devon | Comments: It's nice to see people still have a soft spot for the XS series of Yamahas, I have just bought one ( god help me ), however, they were never particularly popular in the UK and performed well below par in all aspects. I bought one because it was so cheap not because I have fond memories of the late seventies, so here we have an essentially weak and uncomfortable touring bike that is top heavy, handles like a love sick camel and is also not particlarly pretty, so what do our cousins over the water do? praise it to the hilt and add silly fairings and high bars, I'm sorry but at the end of the day the entire XS series was woefully inadaquete in all respects an now has the added handicap of enamating yet another Harley Look alike. I guess it is what I should expect from a nation that drives the most hideous poor handling petrol guzzling cars in the world. |

Nev Duckworth - 12/05/99 18:52:49 My Email:jeanev@cwcom.net Location: England, ex RSA | Comments: Great page, really enjoyed it. I started on m/c in 1956 on a BSA Bantam in South Africa. I had all sorts of bikes and I wrote a m/c test column every Saturday in a large newspaper in Durban. We now live in the UK and have just bought a Honda CG 125 to get to work and back. I'm still enjoying bikes, even though I am a grandfather 6 times over! Keep up the good work, Kindest regards, Nev Duckworth, Bransgore, Christchurch, Dorset, UK |

Michael Riehl - 06/21/99 22:08:08 My Email:Michael.Riehl@t-online.de Location: Germany, Europe | Comments: Greetings to Tom and Lisa from Michael and Renata ! We´ve been motorcycling for the last 15 years. Now, that we are parents of a 23 month-old daughter, there is not much time left for this hobby. But in april 99, we owned a ´78 XS 750 Special like yours in a quite bad condition, imported from Florida. You now, we owned two XS 850 a couple of years ago, and made our marriage yourney on one of them. In 1989, we founded the german XS Triple association ("Yamaha Dreizylinder IG"). Now, after five years on some other bikes, we retourned to the triple scene. So, the next 24 month are planned for restoring... ...and we hope to keep it 100% original as an "american" motorcycle. Greetings from a few thousand miles away, yours, Michael and Renata (who havent´t been to the United states yet...) |

Luke Healey - 05/04/99 03:35:25 My URL:http://www.public.iastate.edu/bikes.html My Email:lhealey@iastate.edu Location: Ames, Iowa | Comments: Hey there, I was doing a search for a 1977 Suzuki gs400, and your page was the ONLY one in existence. Anyway, i'm looking for information on the bike itself, since I can't tell if all the parts are original on it or not, I'm pretty sure the back rim is NOT original on my bike, as I had to order a new sprocket when my chain ate the old one up.. Turned out o be a Kawasaki rim... Anyway, I'm now working on the front tire.. And here is my question to you... Does your bike have a disk brake? or a drum brake. mine has a drum, but I suspect it came with a disk from the factory.. If not, please let me know what kind of setup you have, as I'm trying to make my bike run like it should :) Also, I was wondering what part of Iowa you were from.. It seems odd to me that the only people on the web that have Suzuki gs400's are both from owa.. Anyway, I gotta run, studying for finals at ISU.. talk to ya later, Luke Healey |

When i finally got to ride it, it was fantastic. Lost a lot of summer driving because parts are hard to get and the dealers don't want to be bothered with "old stuf". However i'll keep wo king on it. Have a good one and will talk to you at another time. Joe Adams |
