uh, you caught me with my metaphorical pants down.
Probably tolerance wasn't really what I wanted to
talk about. I approve of tolerance between people.
I'm not referring to this NG, so relax. What I find
dreadful is soapy generalizations made as a matter
of course by monotheists attempting to show their
toleration, referring to the One who made us all
or similar unitarian pronouncements they think
anybody ought to agree to. Happens I don't, i
figure if anybody made us all it had to be at least
two, and more likely an orgy.
But it bugs me to see people sinking into
themselves, which is what actually happens when
they apply reducing our multiplex universe to
a single causal principle. This is the solipcism
error: a logical universe emanating from a single
rationality cannot be stable against collapse to
singularity. I have a hunch that not less than
four minds are required, before you can know
that an emanation or logical universe is stable.
The real problem with monotheism is that lone
gods go crazy. No, I don't favor simplifying the
theological landscape, and I don't trust
reductionism.
So if what it costs me to work with somebody
is to agree to put out a statement about the
Divine Principle singular and in caps, then i
just don't need to work with them. That was
pretty much the idea I wanted to get across.
We are likely to be the outriders in gatherings
of religions. We don't need to be included if
it costs our integrity. We don't have to melt
down the details of our beliefs to fit the
common mold. We as Pagans must have a caution
of unity as a trap, intended to shave off our
excess deities.
That's what we need to look out for.
Blessed be,
