BEYOND (GOOD TIME) (ROCK
RECORDS)
(NOV99)
|
This is the brand new album
from Beyond, and possibly the last one for a while as the guys
are going separate ways to further their individual
careers. Officially, the group is not dispersed yet and
its members are merely following the same career path tactics as
taken by Western groups like Spice Girls (think Mel C & Baby
Spice) and Boyzone (think Ronan Keating). This
CD contains ten tracks which are wholly produced by Beyond and
they include the title track "Good Time".

VALEN HSU (HAPPY ME) (WHAT'S
MUSIC)
(NOV99)
|
Valen Hsu has released her
second Cantonese offering "Happy Me". Strictly
this is an EP because it contains only five Cantonese tracks,
notwithstanding the inclusion of three additional Mandarin songs
which were already included in her latest Mandarin album "Victory".
These latter three tracks are "Victory" (or Zhen Ai Wu
Di), "Happy Me" (or Wo Jiu Shi Zhe Mo Kuai Le) and the
duet with William So "Star" (or Heng Xing).
Coming back to the Cantonese numbers, there are two
advertisement theme-songs which are also the first two singles,
namely, "Hair" (endorsing "Head &
Shoulders" shampoo product) and "The Woman Who's Like
A Cat" (for a "Hello Kitty" and Hong Kong
Telecoms tie-up promotion). The
limited-edition CD comes with a bonus VCD which contains the
music videos for the aforementioned two Cantonese tracks and
three Mandarin songs. Other goodies include a "Hello
Kitty" calculator, a "Hello Kitty" phone-game
card and ten stickers of Xiu Xiu.

LEON LAI (VISUAL TRIP) (SONY
MUSIC)
(NOV99)
|
Even before the release of
Leon's latest Cantonese album, it has already made news by
causing a massive cyberspace traffic jam on 24 October last
month when its title track was available for a one-day preview
listening over the Internet (note : reportedly, 1.4 million hits
were recorded within that 24 hours - awesome!). The album
also scores a first in the Cantonese pop music industry by
promoting its title track over the Net prior to its official
release. Altogether
there are nine tracks in this CD, including two special
dance remixes of "Sugar In The Marmalade" and
"Happy 2000" (note : the original version of these two
tracks have already been included in Leon's previous Cantonese
album "Leon
Now" and Mandarin album "Belongs To
Me" respectively), plus a piano instrumental piece of one
of the new songs called "You Are My Friend". As
such, there are only six new tracks and
furthermore, one of the new tracks is actually an interlude,
thereby leaving us with only five full-length new
songs. Hence I would seriously consider this release as an
EP rather than a LP. The
album CD comes with a bonus VCD which contains four music
videos, including two brand new songs (the title track
"Visual Trip" and the second single "That's
Life") and two Mandarin tracks ("Belongs To Me"
and "I Am Not Anyone" found originally in his latest
Mandarin album "Belongs To
Me" - some guys from Sony must have read my comment
:))

ANDY LAU (LOVE IGNORANCE) (BMG
MUSIC)
(NOV99)
|
Brand new Cantonese offering
from Heavenly King Andy Lau (or Liu De Hua). After his
collaboration with Kenny G last year, Andy has once again teamed
up with another international musician (this time, from Japan)
in one of the tracks titled "Pain" which is also the
first single. He's none other than Koji Tamaki (or Yu Zhi
Hao Er) formally the ex-lead singer & song-writer from the
successful group An Quan Di Dai. Altogether there
are ten new tracks here. The
album comes with a bonus AVCD which contains three music videos
: "Pain", "Follow Me Whole-Heartedly" and
"Love You For Ten Thousand Years". The latter

the Cantonese version of "Star/Heart Words" which is a
theme song of the movie "Star Wish" starring Cecilia

videos of "Keep Thinking " and

twelve tracks here, including the first single "C'est La

name), a remix version of his previous hit "Spy" (or

RUBY LAM (HEARING) (ROCK
RECORDS)
(NOV99)
|
Ruby Lam (or Lin Xin Ru) has
released her debut album "Hearing" (note : for those
who don't know who she is yet, she's the second popular actress
(after Zhao Wei) to emerge from the massive Qiong Yao TV hit
serial "My Fair Princess" or "Huang Zhu Ge Ge").
On the day of its release in Hong Kong, more than ten thousand
copies of the album were reportedly snapped up within three
hours - awesome! Her
debut effort is actually an EP containing one Cantonese number
and four Mandarin songs. One of the Mandarin tracks
"Together For Life & Death" sets a record by being
the first theme song ever for a comic book (note : it's worth
noting that the comic book is drawn by HK comics magnate Huang
Yu Lang and is based on the popular sword-fighting novel
"The Condor Heroes " by Jin Yong). The
EP album comes bundled with a bonus VCD containing the music
videos for four of the tracks. Unfortunately,
"Together For Life & Death" is the odd one out by
being the only song not included in the VCD.

EDMOND LEUNG (TAI TAI TAI TAI)
(CAPITAL ARTISTS)
(OCT99)
|
Edmond Leung (or Liang Han Wen)
has released his latest Cantonese offering in which he is
spotted having a rugged look unlike his clean-cut boy-next-door images in his
past albums. This is a two-CD
package : the first CD contains five brand new tracks including
the title track "Tai Tai Tai Tai" while the second CD
contains five cover versions of HK pop songs originally sung by
other singers, such as The Grasshoppers' "Unhappy
Land" (or "Shi Le Yuan) and Aaron Kwok's "Crying
Talk" (or "Ru Qi Ru Shu").

BONDY CHIU (INSIDE) (EEG)
(OCT99)
|
A new album from Bondy Chiu
(or Zhao Xue Er). Unfortunately she is better known these
days as the "older woman who is dating a younger Nicholas
Tse" than as a music artiste, despite having seen better
days in her music career, especially about four years back when
she did churn out some truly golden pop hits like "Every
Two Seconds" and "I Hate I Am A Woman".
This latest limited-edition release CD comes bundled with a
bonus VCD which contains the music videos for her two new tracks
"Lucky To See" and "Missing", a mouse pad
and a novel booklet.

KAREN MOK (BACK) (ROCK

|
Karen Mok's second Cantonese
release after more than two years (note : her first Cantonese
album would probably be better remembered as the one which
showed her baring her full back on the cover). This new
release is actually an EP containing three brand new tracks
which are produced by Anthony Wong (or Huang Yao Ming), they
include the title track "Back", the first single
"Cold Rain" and the third song "Top
Score". The EP also contains two bonus Cantonese

Mok movie soundtrack album "King Of Comedy", namely,
"The Way You Make Me Feel" and "Love For A Life
Time".
