EDISON CHEN (EDISON CHEN EP) (MUSICPLUS
LIMITED) (NOV00)
|
Highly regarded as the single
biggest threat to Nicholas Tse's current Small Heavenly King
position, newbie movie actor Edison Chen (or Chen Guan Xi) has
released his debut album, which is in the form of an EP
(side-note : incidentally, both Edison and Nicholas belong to
the same parent record company EEG). Altogether
there are five Cantonese tracks, one Mandarin number and one
English song. His first single "Love Oneself" is
a ballad composed by singer Leslie Cheung (or Zhang Guo Rong)
and written by Lin Xi. In addition, he sang its Mandarin
cover titled "Owe You The Love", also written by Lin
Xi. The
second single "Come" is a rap-dance number which is
the main theme-song for his debut movie "Gen-Y Cops"
co-starring Stephen Fung and Sam Lee. There is a
counterpart English version named "Heroes". The
EP comes in an attractive paper package and includes a bonus VCD
containing the music videos of "Love Oneself" and
"Come".

NICHOLAS TSE (VIVA) (EEG)
(NOV00)
|
Nicholas Tse (or Xie Ting Feng)
has come out with his brand new album. Nicholas's
latest offering is packed with his favourite type of music,
rock. His first two
singles are both composed by himself and written by Lin Xi.
The first single "Alive Viva" is a thumping dance-rock
track while the second single "Playground" is a
mid-tempo ballad. The third single "Devil's
Idea" is another slow rock ballad. A note-worthy
mention is that the album contains his very first English ballad
work "Senses". The
CD comes bundled with a bonus VCD containing the music video of
"Alive Viva".

UKU PANG (THINKING OF YOU SO
MUCH) (SONY MUSIC) (OCT00)
|
A newcomer by the name of Uku
Pang (or Peng Hai Tong) whose credentials look pretty
impressive. Only 22 years old, she has already wrote songs
(usually using the pseudonym name Peng Ni) for established
artistes like Jacky Cheung's Cantonese hit "Lonely
Guy" (or Ji Mo Nan Ren) (a hot karaoke favourite) and
Mandarin track "Half Happiness" (or Er Fen Zhi Yi De
Xing Fu), Leo Ku's Mandarin song "Not Friends Anymore"
(or Bu Zai Shi Peng You) and Cass Phang's recent Cantonese
number "As Beautiful As You Want" (or Yao Duo Mei Li
You Duo Mei Li). She was also the pianist for Candy Lo's
"Music Is Live" concert in Hong Kong. Uku's
debut album contains a total of eleven vocal tracks (including
one without lyrics). Strictly speaking this is an EP as it
contains five Cantonese tracks, one Mandarin number and four
Mandarin covers of those same Cantonese songs. A plus
point is that both her Cantonese and Mandarin dictions are
fluent. Most of the
works are composed by Uku herself and they lean towards the folk
genre. The first single cum title track "Thinking Of
You So Much" is a light-tempo folkish song composed by Uku
and written by Huang Wei Wen. The second single
"Happy Back" is a ballad composed by Uku and written
by Lin Xi. The album
CD doubles up as a CD Rom which contains a mix of computer utilities
such as screen saver, wallpaper and a profile of Uku.

EDMOND LEUNG (PARENTAL
GUIDANCE) (CAPITAL ARTISTS) (OCT00)
|
Now that Eason Chan (or Chen
Yi Xun) has left Capital Artists, Edmond Leung (or Liang Han Wen)
is technically the No. 1 male artiste in the record
company. Let's hope the record executives won't make a
blunder out of Edmond as they did with Eason. If anything,
they have already make the first wrong move in terms of styling
(just as in Eason's case). Edmond looks like a laughing
stock on the album cover, wearing his supposedly naked uniform. In
this twelve-track album, his first three singles are all
composed by singers. The title track cum first single
"Parental Guidance" is a slow-rock composition of
Eason Chan and is written by Huang Wei Wen. The second
single "Searching" is a folkish ballad composed by
Nicholas Tse (or Xie Ting Feng) and written by Lin Xi. The
third single "My Fate" is a ballad cover of a Japanese
composition by singer/actor Masaharu Fukuyama (or Fu Shan Ya Zhi).
